My Friend went against all my advice, thinks she knows soooo much about cars, and got an LS460 for 70+k , against I recommended a competing MB or BMW.

I think the LS460 is a great car overall and maybe the most reliable in the long run with all the gadgetry and everything but as car people the brand is so boring to me. Especially spending that much on the flagship Lexus, I thought even an E500 or 5 series would be better and more sportier (which was one of her details) she claims the LS460 is very sporty....hmmm...

I like the LS460. Figure it would be a great and comfortable cruiser. Seems to be a perfect road trip car :D

Was behind one today. It had an L after the number, do they make a long wheel base model now?

It looked nice for a Lexus, more exciting than the last IMO.

The molding from the top of the rear window was sticking up and flapping in the wind.

To me, a Lexus makes sense for a person who wants to be isolated from the driving experience rather than a part of it. Lexus makes luxurious automobiles that are quiet, reliable and refined. BMW makes the ultimate driving machine.

I agree. Might be boring if it was your only car, but if it fits in a nice stable of cars for various purposes, I think it would be a lovely fit for the "road trip car".

I remember that the LS430 won the best road trip car in I think a R&T mag a few years back against MB, BMW, and Audi. I dont doubt this at all...

But the comment about not being a part of the driving experience is right on the money. I even saw a nice one with some WALD accessories, but just seemed...uhh....just ok.

the stylin isn't different enough and it doesn't catch your eye like an s class or 7 series...

70+ is alot for a lexus regardless, but for someone lookin for a comfortable ride, with little noise and a sporty kick in the seat with the depression of the right foot bad the lexus is perfect.

I really like the new AMG kit on the s550's the wheels with low profile tires make all the difference, it goes from a floatin couch to a sports like sedan similar but not quite like the 7 series..

Lexus has constantly copied Mercedes-Benz's styling. It is an unoriginal car, basically only made to fit a certain segment. Compare that to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, for example.

The new LS is ugly. And I've found that the type of people who buy them are stuck-up types who think they're better than everyone. At least that's the feeling I get from all the drivers in and around Hollywood.

Does anyone think that from a profile view, its rear taillights look like those of a BMW 5 series?

How many people here have really pushed a v-8 Lex? My father switched from S-class Benzes to Lex about 7 years ago and has not looked back. Personally, I am sold on them too..

I agree that they isolate the driver from the "driving experience", BUT those v-8 s with the "sport" package flat out RUN.

I have not yet had the pleasure of driving the new LS, but I am sure that they, like the other v-8s, are deceptively quick, and could probably hold their own against the S500 & 7-Series Bimmer.

Throw me in that group too. I got tired of the technician spending more time with the S-class than me. I'm not sold on the new LS460 though. Drives just like I expected but the styling is a turn-off for me.

Rented one for a week in LA just to see what it was all about.
    That thing is dangerous!
Put me to sleep on Ventura freeway in the middle of the day ,in heavy traffic cruising about 60.
If it wasn't for other cars honking(to wake me up) I would definitely crash!
    Seriously,what a boat,felt like a 60's Caddy slightly updated for the 21 century.
Not even close with the new S-Class....

On FERRARIchat you should get a 2 day ban for that statement. ESSPECAILLY since Mitsubishi has better driving machines availible then BMW now. BMW softened the steering feel in 2002. Sucked ever since.

Neighbor has a 460L. I love it. If I were to get a big sedan, it would be high on the list...

Truth be told though, I'd prob go for a CLS550...

When Ferrari makes a regular-production sedan, I'll happily change my post. My statement was limited to the topic of luxury sedans, therefore Mitsubishi doesn't count. :)

Since this post is actually still alive...I have to add this...so I was talking to the owner of the LS yesterday..asked how the car was..and she replied..."I forgot to tell you this thing is sooooooo fast, and does 0-60 in like 3 seconds!!!" -
I didnt want to argue anymore and just agreed and said wow. Shows the knowledge of some of these buyers =)

Applies to 90% of Lexus buyers vs probably 80% MB,70% BMW and 60% of Ferrari owners.
