I was going to say that but didn't feel like typing it. I don't see anything close to inflammatory. If anything, McLaren included Hamilton in the press release, which would seem to imply congruency.
My sense is that now the road car development is finished and they are in production Ron will have more "free" time to go to F-1 races. I would not be suprised at all to see him back in control at the races ( not that he ever gave up control behind the scenes). I like Hamilton as well, and I think he could be a huge positive focus for Black people, but he seems to be more focused on going hollywood ... and his driving is suffering.
Who said anything about "inflammatory"?..... It is also a PF1 report, and they're pretty much bottom feeders IMO but I'd say this represents a little "fallout"; Truly happy for Jensen - Who says nice guys don't finish first? Cheers, Ian
The position Hamilton might be in per the article is the "fallout"(status/bargaining later on). I chose a bad word I suppose. It was not an inflammatory article nor did I post it to be. Its an article about contrast. Button was supposed to suffer under LH, clearly not the case. In fact he is a more complete driver as of this year. LH has a ways to go to be able to say that. Title or not LH is not a complete driver in my opinion. Sheer talent and speed need temperment. Someday he might just get that. This year he did not and misses another opportunity to display it. JB nice or not, is smart enough to know to finish a race gives you a better shot at winning a race.
Doubt if he leaves McLaren, don't think that any of the top 4 teams would have him. But he is not stupid just immature, this season should be a wake-up call. If the car is good in 2012, he will be back at minimum in the top 3. If he hears the wake-up call.
+1 I didn't mean to sound like I was "pouncing" either! Certainly, Lewis is no longer the golden child at Mclaren, and JB signing a long term deal sort of confirms it (although why they won't say how long it's for is strange, why not?); His position is a lot weaker now than it was, say, a year back. I too don't think he's going anywhere in the near term, but I'm no longer convinced he's gonna be a Mclaren "lifer" as initially projected - Unless he ups his game some. Cheers, Ian
Remind me again how long Lewis has been driving now in F1, please? How long does it take to gain maturity and temperment?
I must say I am astonished how short of a time it took Vettel to mature and it made him the fantastic driver he is today! As for my man Lewis, as a black man in my mid 20's, I did look up to him and still do to this day but he does need to mature and stop worrying about the limelight. Hopefully he will be back on his game next year!
Thing is, i think Lewis's main issue is his problem of being impatient. Look at Button, how calm, cool, and collected he is.
+1 With the benefit of hindsight it may well have suited Lewis better to start out with a mid to back pack drive - Learn to struggle a little before getting in a car capable of winning the WDC - Same as most of 'em have done over the years - Beat your teammate and the big boys will take notice. He was so successful, so early, that he started to believe his own publicity maybe (?) Cheers, Ian
There are more production cars in the pipeline. Ron will have plenty to do at Woking. Lewis has had more than enough time to get his head straight. If he hasn't figured it out by now he won't ever. No one knows that better than McLaren and now that they have a proven winner in Jensen Lewis is more than expendable. Other teams will be more than willing to grab a talent like Lewis, sure that they can tame his exuberances. Who knows? They may be right. In any case the ties keeping him at Macca have never been weaker.
Remember he went through that special McLaren program from a very young age on. I wouldn't be surprised if they told him how great he was all the time. As I said before, egos like his may be the negative side of the driver grooming programs.
