F1 coverage moves from Speed channel to "Court TV". Bureaucrats tell the engineers how to make the cars; bureaucrats tell the drivers how to drive. Why don't the rest of us go off and have a car race? (I hear a bunch of european tracks are becoming available.) (Of course, in europe, a bunch of bureaucrats tell the sponsors what they can put on the cars.) Of course, McLaren will appeal. Toyota will appeal McLaren's appeal. Despite all the appeals, F1 doesn't look very appealing for race fans.
Good and correct move by FIA. Since it now have been proven McL will do anything to get points, ban them for 5 races.
It's easy to bash FIA, but don't forget that if Hamilton hadn't tried to obviously pull a fast one on Trulli, they wouldn't have to hand out any penalties. As Brian said, China 2007 comes to my mind. Setting up traps for the ones driving behind you is unfair and has to be punished (remember when Schumi parked in Monaco?).
But if it takes the stewards four days to "see" the race, they must be watching from about 64 billion miles away (about 720 AU), or somewhere between Sedna and the Oort cloud. (Light speed delay.) And it was Trulli who went off, resulting in Hamilton passing under the SC. Hamilton slowed to let Trulli regain his third place position. They DQ'd Hamilton for "causing" them to make the wrong decision on their first revision. Why didn't they look at the data before handing out Trulli's penalty in the first place? If you're going to revise the race results, you need to be sure you've got the right answer. If they'd just left it alone, the results would be ... what the results were when the cars crossed the finish line. Hamilton has been made the scapegoat for the stewards' having messed up. McLaren likely will appeal, so the race *still* ain't over yet. And this isn't even the FIA, yet: this is the local stewards ... who see an F1 race in person maybe once a year, if that. (The same stewards who took three laps to get the SC out after Kazoo's crash.) And BTW: I watched that Monaco qualifying live over digital satellite, and I still swear I saw the back end twitch loose under breaking for the first apex, ruining his line through Rascasse. (The same brake oversteer that put Massa into the barriers at a different turn in Q1.) (I've seen it again in NTSC, and Schumi caught it so fast that it doesn't really show in that resolution.) From outside the car, it looked like he could have continued on, but the in-car camera (combined with the shade at that track) made it look like there wasn't room -- and the driver sits well below the camera. I still consider that a bogus penalty. (Especially as they didn't just DQ his Q3 times, but all three sessions.) (I was so disgusted by that penalty that I watched Indy instead of Monaco, that year. Indy had better TV coverage, including PIP during the commercials, so you can still see what's happening in the race.)
bad move for LH, he lost all of his creditability with the stewarts and the race community. As a World Champion he is suppose to be a role model, He could have had 4th but now he has nothing. Who will believe him now.
F1 is not the real F1 of the earlier days. were are the days that the winner of the race went straight to another race ( sportscars, F2, touringcars o r whatsever) to compete again as racing was his way of making a living. -Now these upperclass boys are earning so much that the go straight to their luxury appartments in Monaco. No need to race elsewere any more were are the times that F1 cars were build in the backdoor barns and still could compete? -With to 1000 employees to make a car (which sometime still is not able to win) F1 is a playground for the rich and famous combined with the car-industy's money now, but it lost all it's roots: Racing to see which driver is the quickest (and has the biggest balls!) were are the times that a lucy privateer could join any time he liked? (and even won) -The power/money of the carmanufacturers increased accordingly to the financial and commercial value of F1 All of the lastest "privateers" went out soon our were crushed. BUT MOST IMPORTANT: WERE ARE THE TIMES THAT THE WINNER OF THE RACE WAS THE ONE WHO FIRST PASSED THE CHECKERED FLAG???? I think F1 is only to by buried, it has been dead for a long time..........
This is not about Trulli spinning off the track and Hamilton passing under SC, or Trulli regaining a position under SC thinking Hamilton slowed down due to some problems. This IS about Lewis Hamilton deliberately lying to and/or withholding information from the stewards, plain and simple. I'm glad Trulli is regaining 3rd place.
Bottom line, Lewis should be 3rd because Yarno went off the track. Yarno should be 4th not 12th. LH let Trulli by because he and his race team was confused at what they should do. Why would Lewis lie when he knows that the radio conversations are available to the FIA? He's not stupid
Confusion in the pits does count against drivers -- look at the Ferrari pit stops last year. (Why is McLaren still calling race control for instructions? It didn't help them at Spa last year.) So if Lewis and McLaren chose to let Jarno pass, then they should have gotten fourth behind Trulli. And the shuffled results would be ..... just how the race finished --- four days ago.
Some people no matter what can't see the truth. Despite all the court rulings about documents in the hands of mclaren, some people will believe lewis and that team are innocent and picked on. I love F1. I have for years. I have no problems with other teams and hard racing but Mclaren have made a mockery of the sport with their cheating and fiddling. Bernie and co made an even bigger mockery by firstly not throwing them out for a year and then allowing them their pit positions over lesser taems down the feild. If you are a big team to hell with honesty and being a true sportsman.
In a separate development, Red Bull's German Sebastian Vettel could have his 10 place penalty on the Malaysian starting grid reviewed. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said Vettel had been asked to discuss the penalty with Alan Donnelly, the FIA'S permanent non-voting chairman of the stewards.
I really wonder how the FIA meeting looked like where they invented that job - "Hey guys, I just noticed... we don't have a permanent non-voting chairman of the stewards yet! We NEED someone for such a job RIGHT NOW!" - wtf? (does anybody know who the non-permanent voting chairman of the stewards and the non-permanent non-voting chairman of the stewards are? )
Small detail, that did not stop micheal schumacher Mid 90s...Micheal schumacher "i did not deleberatly drive into Damon Hill" Micheal schumacher 2007 " i did not park my Ferrari at Monaco"
Exactly, it doesn't matter if they contact race control CW or whatever, this is a complete F-up and it's quite apparent to me they haven't learnt anything from last years mess up's. Ok maybe the full fact's will emerge, but it seems to me Mclaren tried to err on the side of caution, and got butt whipped again by Max. The bottom line 1st race, Toyota had been thrown out of qualifying for having rear wings which were overly flexible and therefore illegal, 3 teams have unresolved Diffuser issue's..? and the worst: RESULTS HAVE YET AGAIN BEEN CHANGED TWICE AFTER THE FLAG DROPPED!! Why doesn't the gravity of the offence apply ? and that applies to Trulli's even before they changed the result again... it's pathetic. The best bet is to remove LH from this sport, it is clear to me he is to good for this crap, besides he has already shown he can still win with race fixing. And Yes I expect all the haters to jump all over LH, so fire away. And please somebody tell me why Porno Max is still in this Job!!
