I am putting a USA license plate frame on my Euro GT and am looking for a little imput on where to place it on the rear panel. I have seen some centered on the flat section (top to bottom) and some with the bottom of the frame about even with the top of the bumpers. Some with the tag lights in the bumper ends bias the frame more to the bottom of the panel. Any advice appreciated.

    goes here...

    How do I know?

Whe we had the car down to bare metal 'bout the only thing that hadn't been filled or bondo'd or welded back there was the LP mounting holes.

And how is the front plat attached please? A picture of the bracket would be much appreciated.

I have a front plate bracket in storage.

    I never took its picture.

If you want it, and can wait until spring, I can dig it out if no one else provides a photo.

I am guessing the penalty in Manila for not having a front plate must be rather severe.
Otherwise, one wonders why you would even contemplate defiling a Ferrari in such a manner... :D

NY required front plates -- I never, ever, ever put one on the 308 when I owned it. Got pulled over probably 5 times for that. Thankfully always talked my way out of that ticket, but had I failed, I would have simply paid the fine ($50 I believe) and just kept the front plate where it belongs, in the trunk.

Mounting the front was a *****. I found a lic. plate holder frame with a plastic adapter that had a long bar in the back to attach the small screws into the holes in the front fender which were NOT placed for standard NY lic. plate holes. I didn't want to drill new ones.

I drove without front plate for a while, but a local policeman told me if I kept doing it, I could wind up getting points on the license. I don't think he ever would have done it, but since I found the plate holder (at the local auto parts store) I just put it on.

Does not look anything like the one I had with my car.

I'll try to cad it for you if I get a chance as it looks like it's gonna be stuck in storage for a while.

The front bracket that came on my 73 246 GT (#06618) looks identical to the above bracket posted by Andy, although mine is painted black. My car was originally delivered in Belgium. This was mounted in two holes drilled below the front grill.

Looks to me like one could simply remove the front grille, then exposing the grille opening return sheet metal. This return flange is quite deep, approx. 1.5" or so on my car. The license plate holder "L" brackets could be attached to the lower return metal with rivets, screws, or small flush mounted bolt hardware. This should allow the license bracket itself to hang down in the correct position. Reinstalling the grille will completely hide any mounting holes. The two "L" brackets are now between the body and the grille.
I've never seen this done in person, but it looks like the factory bracket was designed to be used this way to me. I would put some very thin soft rubber, etc, on the back side of the two "L" bracket so the paint does not chafe in this area.
If you wish to remove the bracket for showing, you would have to reverse the process and remove the grille to remove the bracket..
    best,
    Jon

    Du'oh!
Although the mounting method describe in my previous post would work just fine, it's obvious to me now the factory drilled holes in the exterior sheet metal below the grille opening.
This is evidenced by the two large attachment bolt access holes, hidden once the plate is mounted to the bracket.
If you don't want the big holes under your grille, you could fab the bracket to mount beetween the grille and body.
    best,
    Jon

When car was new (to me) I put front plate on car. Went to a sheet metal shop and bought two strips of stainless steel, 1.5" wide and 0.025" thick. Bolted them to each side of license and made sharp bend back about 1/2" above top of plate. resulting tabs slipped between grill and body after loosening grill fasteners. Put thin rubber on back of exposed stainless and fasteners, used touch-up paint on front of stainless. Just have to come close to color of car and no one will notice. After a year plate was bent back at 45 degrees and all beat up. I pulled it but that is one way to stay legal. Kept remains in trunk for a while then moved it to storage. Never been called for the errors of my ways. Knock on wood.

I hope this is not considered a hijack, but do any of you have photos of the back of a Euro license plate frame? I'm having to design and fabricate a Euro frame as the last touch for my 365 GT 2+2 restoration and would really like to know how the studs are attached to the back of the frame.
    Thanks.

That's good. That means my bracket must be original. It also looks like the bracket on 500TR's 246 GTS #07594, posted some days back.

    Now to attach this ...

When I bought #04808 (two years old), I got the Euro front bracket in a box. It has long ago disappeared in my basement! I don't have front plates (NY) on either of my Dinos, but keep them under the passenger seat. I was only stopped once, by a city patrolman that I happened to know from my days as an Assistant D.A. When he saw that it was me (I could only see his name tag as he approached the car, and called him by name), and I offered to hand him the front plate, he said: "Some p...k might give you a ticket!" He left without saying anything else. My experience has been that most police officers coming at you from the opposite direction are either baffled by what a Dino is, or don't happen to notice that the front plate is missing. Now, if you happen to be stopped for something else, such as trying to break the sound barrier, that's another story! Fred
