******** IT! So, Noah, Danny and I spent some time this afternoon on the Thruway, Bronx River Parkway, and some service road near "Highway 1" testing the Lidatek in the TL. The verdict: BULLSH!T The Lidatek detected the laser EVERYTIME but was completely and utterly 100% ineffective in JAMMING the Laser detecting devices. (We actually used 2 very different devices -- I'll get the names of the devices we used in the test. I sort of forgot what they were...) The LIDATEK WAS SO WORTHLESS that pointing the cordless laser range finder and speed measuring device DIRECTLY AT THE LIDATEK ANTENNA in the grill did not result in CRAP coming back to the gun. No error code. No bogus speed. No nothing, just crisp, clear readings. EVERY SINGLE TIME. We got readings at 32 mph, 47 mph (and 144 mph) Next time, we'll test an old-school K-40 that Roy has on his Viper on the front plate (Yeah, he's the only guy I know with a front plate on a Viper) So, as of right now: LIDATEK BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This product testing brought to you buy cub reporter...Emil R. "But honest officer, we were just speeding to test the unit to see if we could jam the radar gun" LOL Serious. This is good stuff. Of course you should bounce your findings off the Lidatek corp guys & see what explanation they come up with.
Very informative post Emi, Thanks for that But, (and this is a very hopeful 'But'), would it be possible that the Lidatek on the TL in particualr just doesn't work? I say this because Chris told me how his Lidatek saved his butt a coupla times..
We will be testing additional units, models of jamming devices in our next outing. The reason why I'm so pissed is, not only did I buy these units for both my rides, but when we pointed the laser detector at the lidatek about 6" from the car we never once got the result LIDATEK suggests will be recieved on the laser. The warning tone/light on the LIDATEK came on EVERY TIME suggesting that the unit was detecting, but the guns got a speed every time (except when the car was stopped, of course...) We did surmise that the unit in the TL may have been busted, but given that we were pressed for time in getting cars together for this test, we only had 1 car with a LIDATEK handy... Next time: more cars. more jammers.
damn, maybe he has a defective unit!!! i know it saved me twice in the nsx and got excellent reviews from the car & driver (or some other mag) article, so it can't be all that bad. Thou I must say my lens is already cracked from 2000 miles of driving....
But that still sucks as you never know it's defective unless you do exactly what Emil did. Or, get a ticket.
Emil, this is a test that all of us and many more have been wanting to do for some time and I applaud you for getting it done! Next time around give me a call and I'll bring out my K40 equipped Audi for a test of the most recent K40 integrated jammer. I'm dying to know if this thing is effective and while we all may think that we've been saved by our "jammer", that very well may be a falacy. We may have just gotten lucky... Nice job...oh and DAMN IT!
I, too, am convinced that my K40 in my first 911 saved my ass all the time in Maryland from the State Police. (I used to commute to DC once a week) but the results we saw yesterday... just pathetic. The things detected a billion times better than the V1, by the way, but it never once prevented a reading from coming up on the laser. (The V1 would not make a peep unless you pointed the laser RIGHT at it) We'll see what happens next time...
Funny that you say that, because I've driven past many obvious speed traps recently and my V1 hasn't picked anything up. I was thinking that it is too much of a coincidence that all of them had their radar or laser off. So either they weren't shooting it at me or the V1 isn't picking it up. I've only gotten laser signals a few times in the past 8 months or so that I have had the V1 and I've driven at least 15,000 miles with it on.
A couple of other things to consider: -- I may indeed have a defective unit in the TL, however it's gone off a few times in situations where I *thought* I was being saved. Once where they guy looked at the front of the car (i posted a while back) and once when Rob was on the NJ turnpike. -- Perhaps the positioning of the Lidatek in the TL is off -- it's a very "stealthy" install, and perhaps too stealthy -- maybe it's being blocked? -- Could it be that at low speeds and relatively close distances, the Lidatek is less effective? Perhaps a more "real" test would be at 1000+ feet at 65+ mph, instead of a slow 30mph run at <1000ft. nlh
Keep us posted! I am very interested, and even upset. The V1 didn't pick it up - that REALLY sucks too.
I gotta test my K40 setup soon...I'm just itchin' to see what the results are. I've also read that the Escort SRX is an awesome jamming device...anyone have one out there?
Bring the cars down here with the units and we could try them out with the portable hand held radar unit. better yet when you guys come down on May 14th we could teste them out with several radar units that we have in our cars.
I just want to know if the V1's you guys are using have been updated?? I just got a V1 version 8 with POP and am quite surprized.....
I haven't updated to the POP version yet what are you surprised about? On the way back from the beach yesterday just before I got to the Robert Moses Bridge my lidatek & V1 started alarming, I was the only car in sight, than they stopped, about a 1/2 a mile up was the radar trap, when I got to about a 1/4 mile they went off again (was doing about 60). Now did it go off the second time becuase he didn't get a reading on me the 1st time or was he just thinking I picked up speed and hoping to get me the second time?
My V1 was picking up the laser and radar just fine yesterday on Ocean Parkway and Robert Moses. I guess the police out by me don't use laser much, which could explain why I haven't gotten readings before. I guess that's a good thing since a V1 can't protect you from laser.
Ed what thier talking about here is the effectiveness of the Lidatek laser jammer, not the V1 we all know that worls great...I thought you were on vacation....
MErv, I was responding to EMil's comment that the V1 didn't even pick up the laser until they aimed it right at it. I still am on vacation...
I was wondering why people say the V1 doesn't work well?? It works for me unless the cop doesn't have the gun on.
Got hit by a NJ Trooper using laser on 280. I'm starting to see them all over the place. Going to be the death of speeding... I'm thinking about covering my car in aluminum foil.............
The V1 was awesome at detecting radar. It was crap at detecting laser. We were out with 2 different guns and the V1 was silent with the Lidatek was chipring up a storm. If we pointed the lasers up into the windshield (which only a cop with bad aim would do) the V1 would go off (And so would the Lidatek). The problem is: THE LIDATEK DID NOT JAM THE RETURN LASER SIGNAL WHICH IS WHAT A LIDATEK IS SUPPOSED TO DO! Personally, a Laser detector is useless, so I don't give a crap about it's laser detection performance. I want the focking jammer to work!
Noah's Lidatek worked early on when he got Lidar'd going to LI. The officer inspected the front of the TL. Noah did not get a ticket. It sounds like Noah's Lidatek passes its own self diagnostic start-up test, so perhaps the transponder has shifted, or has accumulated winter crud and salt (laser eyes transmit light and must be kept clean). I know Lidatek is effective, and has saved many other customers, including myself. It's no coincidence that all the AUDI, BMW, Mercedes forums group buy Lidatek. -Gus Technik 1
