Graham Hill won the Triple Crown of motorsport. Indy in 1966, Le Mans in 1972 (with Pescarolo) and Monaco in 1963, 64, 65, 68, 69. Tough act to follow.
Interesting but that is coming from Montoya, what does "toying with the idea of Ferrari" mean? He probably thought about driving for Ferrari and then woke up when his alarm clock went off. Michael would have blown him into the weeds as Kimi did. Juan was a quick driver but nowhere near complete enough to be a champion. Haha!
Interesting thought: If Montoya hadn't left, or been sacked, by McLaren, Hamilton wouldn't have been there in 2007 and who knows how his career turns out instead. Does Alonso stay at McLaren after 2007 since Montoya would have been his teammate and there would have been no blowup with LH? Would he have ever gone to Ferrari? Does Hamilton ever make it into F1? Does Button ever go to McLaren? Would he have ended up at Ferrari instead? Montoya leaving altered the career trajectories of some big time drivers.
That is a fascinating thought, if JPM had been able to stay at McLaren the statistics of several of the top drivers would be significantly altered as well as the public's perception. Alonso probably picks up at least 2 more WDCs, Hamilton does not end up in the best car for his first 2 years and may not have a chance of getting into a top team. It really demonstrates the importance of being in the right car at the right time (not that this is a new revalation, but it is a very strong case in point). Thanks for the post!
"He was also asked about rumors that, when his F1 career transitioned from Williams to McLaren in the middle of the last decade, he also toyed with a switch to Ferrari." It's says rumors, not just him saying that he wanted to go to Ferrari. There was probably some interest there on both sides.
Not really. We all know how "rumors" are in F1. 99% of them are BS. Ferrari was winning everything under the sun with Michael. Why would they want to mess with Montoya, makes no sense.
Because he would have been quicker than Massa and they were losing to Renault then. Remember they signed Kimi right around that time so they were definitely looking. It would have been a bad move but entertaining to watch.
