Purchased and installed my mid-range lift this week, BendPak MD 6XP, 46 inch lift so lots of room for engine clearance. Works very well. Two questions, given the proximity of the lifting locations on the side of the vehicle, once the engine weight is released from the car, so supported with the dolly, is there potential for the car to tip forward? When working in the engine bay, detailing, I was thinking of supporting the front of the car with a wooden 2X6 frame to ensure the car is stable but concerned that the car might tip immediately once the engine weight is removed?

Second question, I am going to make a dolly out of plywood, laminate two pieces of 3/4 inch plywood with four 6 inch casters. It looks to me as though the dolly should be about 36 X 30 inches to accommodate rolling the engine out. Is this size adequate?

    Thank you

In the middle of practically the same setup as you. No, the car won't tip forward. I had 3 guys positioned because I had the exact same concern as you. No problem - car is / was perfectly stable.

I sized my dolly to be basically the size of the footprint of the engine.

I unhooked everything then put the wheels back on, rolled it as far back on the lift that I could get it. Then lifted the car off with no problems. As was said it was stable at full lift.
