Just installed my new BenPak mid lift in preparation for doing a major in a couple of months. Noting the location of the four jack-points on the car, I am wondering if, once the engine is released and supported by the dolly under the engine etc. will there be the possibility of the car tipping forward. I would hope that is not the case, once the engine is rolled out I would support the nose with a wooden frame to ensure that it does not move as I detail the engine bay. Can anyone comment.

Lastly, I was going to fabricated of dolly 36 X 30 inches of two chunks of 3/4 inch plywood and 6 inch casters. Does this seem an appropriate size, height wise it seems to work

    Hi Gary,

Since I used the two jack method I should not comment on the possibility of the car tipping forward other than to say that blocking the nose would seem a wise precaution.

For my major I made up a dolly measuring 30" by 24" but, as I did not have a lift (two jack method) the dimensions, particularly the width, were critical so that I could have the best access to the chassis bolts.
If I undertand correctly you just need to know if 36 X 30 is big enough.........so, you have my answer.

All the best for the job!

I am more concerned with the fact you are going to be doing a major on the car without knowing anything about lifting vehicles despite having your own lift.

Obtaining information and asking the right questions is how accidents are prevented. Especially the first time a particular maintenance technique is tried. The entire engine and its supporting sub-frame assembly must be removed (i.e., dropped down from the car) in order to perform a 30K major service on an F355. This involves special considerations and safety precautions.
