just picked up a new lift for my garage 6000 lb two post. Has anyone had any problems lifting the 348 TS?? when I lift this car the door jam opens about 3/16 of an inch at the top of the door, could this be normal??

On my 355 GTS the doors gap and the roof gaps - it kinda freaks me out but others have confirmed it is what it is.

Just trying to picture what you mean. When you lift the car aren't all 4 wheels on the lift platform?
Could you post a photo of what you mean?

It's this kind of body flex that probably explains the buttress cracks that often appear on 348 and 355 models maybe?

2-post lift he is talking about, not 4 post with ramps....

    Thanks Dave,

Still worrying though. And with even stiffer chassis than the previous models it does make you wonder.

    Where are you lifting it?

A 348 is easy to lift on a 2-post but doesn't involve the "jacking points".

While I don't love it, I do understand it. The 355 has a uni-body frame that connects to the rear sub-frame. If you don't put the lift arms on the sub-frame (which I do not - can't pull a motor that way) the weight causes a bend. Remember, we have targa's. Perhaps this does not happen on a GTB?

Thank you all as always very helpful. I lift the car from the lifting point at the front door, and the sub frame at the bolting point. I'll come back on the sub frame and live with it.

If you are getting those gaps you are lifting it wrong and effectively breaking its back.

Everyone I talk with a TS has the same problem. The closer to the rear wheels you can lift the better. If your trying to remove the motor this is impossible. I'm sure they flex when your driving them, without a full roof there is limited rigidity.

It's absolutely not impossible if you use enough jacks, stands etc and think hard about what you are going to do before doing it and think about the loads and their positions relative to where you are about to lift.

I can't speak for a 348 since I don't have one. But, for a 355, you would be wrong because you can't pickup from the sub frame if you intend to remove it :)

Did you look at the document I created?

    Nice document, Dave!
I always jack my car at the official lift points, and then chuck some more stands under the rear sub frame just to distribute the load better, but not as a major weight bearing capacity. Of course that's being done on the floor on on a 4 post lift, so that option is there, which you don't have on a 2 post lift. When you look at one of these cars hanging just from the official jack points only, it just looks all wrong. I guess the optimal solution for a 2 post lift is to fit it with 3 support arms per side: 2 in the proper locations, and the third arm helping in the back.
