It's been beautiful weather so Sunday I decided to go for a jog. Now I rarely run, but I do go to the gym regularly.

Why do my ligaments/muscles (where the leg meets the ankle/foot) feel so sore. Are my muscles that weak even though I do leg workouts every week? I know it's not a big deal and it takes time, but just figuring it's normal since everytime I run it happens (which isn't often).

I'd suggest that maybe your running form needs to be adjusted if your ankles are hurting. But, it is definite that running is different muscle reaction than a workout. Leg workouts definitely aid my ability to run faster.

If I run 12 miles+ in a week, then my bad knee feels it, and I cut down the following week.

    Thanks.

I don't think my form is bad, I don't take huge strides and I'm really jogging, not running. I think my body just isn't use to me jogging and it's using the stability muscles differently maybe.

    I wouldn't call it a pain. It's soreness.

You said it, you rarely run, so when you do you are using muscles that you haven't had to use in that manner for a long time. Thus the soreness. Could also be bad footwear that is adding to your soreness. If the shoes are worn down then they may cause an excessive pronation or supination of your foot which would also cause your muscles to work harder and be more sore.

Always expect muscle soreness with new activity even when you regularly workout. New activities challenge your muscles in new ways.

Thanks. Yep, I think it's the stability muscles really at work.

I went out again yesterday and I was able to jog, but pain was still there from running Sunday. It's going to be a while before I have the stamina to do a full run. Right now I'm doing a 50/50 of walking/jogging.
