Good day. I have a black 2007 F430. Even though the paint is in excellent condition, it is beginning to show some light clearcoat scratches and swirls (yes, I do drive it every week). I have used Meguiar's Machine Polish #3 with a power circular polisher before in my late black 997C4S with some success. Can you recommend a good machine polish for a once-a-year maintenance? Thank you.

    Regards,

I would give Meguiars 205 a try if they are slight
Meguiars d300 if they are a bit deeper
Meguiars 105 if they are more intense.

Sonax and Menzerna also make good polishes. These polishes act differently than say the Meguiars do so technique is important. These polishes need to be worked so the abrasives diminish and refine the paint as you polish.

Its hard to say without a photo of the swirls in question. You want to use the least aggressive method first, and not just rush to a heavy compound set up.

Black, blue foam pads are a good starting point. The Meguiars microfiber pads are excellent too.

Are you using a machine to polish?

    Cheers,
    GREG

    Hello and thanks.

I meant to say that I have used GRIOT's Machine Polish #3 and not Meguiars. I am using a Griots random electric orbiter, with their orange (I belive) polishing pad. The scratches are light and random, in specific locations rather than an entire section - no spider webs or swirls. So for now, localized and not over the entire paint. Again, thanks for the input.

Let me introduce you to a blog that can help you make some detailing decisions.

http://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-Pro/ You can search for product info, techniques, and product reviews.

As for your specific I'm not familar with Griots products. I would look into a softer pad (orange is more of a light cutting) for polishing. I think you might be just fine with Meguiars 205 and a blue pad for your present situation.

    Cheers,
    GREG
