Does anybody have any information about the "ZF" differential of a Dino 246 GT/GTS?
I´m particular interested how to check play of the differential.
    (clutch / plates / disks)

    Regards Matthias

If you need parts, the spider gears and shafts are available from ZF but are silly money. Many vendors have the clutch plates.

Hello Matthias, the inside of the diff is the same as a BMW or Alfa Romeo. By adding thicker plates, or adding more clutches you can tighten the preload. I will explain more when I have more connectivity tomorrow.
    What do you need specifically?

    Regards, Alberto

Ferrari Dino has a transaxle, pretty similar to a 308.

Not sure what parts you'd find on a Fiat Dino which does have a conventional type rear end.

It is all ZF innards inside the diff, except different side plates and clutches.

Contact a 2002 specialist, and should find all you need.

    Regards, Alberto

PS. What section do you have to rebuild? Are your clutches worn?

There are different specifications to each ZF diff./ car model/application and there are various modifications that can be performed depending on the needs. If the clutch plates are not worn, chances are that all is OK. If the oil in the transaxle was not changed as per requirements, then there could be wear.

If you cannot find specifications in the Dino books, I would get in touch with ZF in Germany as they are the best source for all information.

In the past, I worked with ZF in the USA and bought all sorts of parts for Alfa Romeo and BMW and they were quite helpful.

    Regards, Alberto

    Hello Alberto,

we have been in contact with ZF Classic in Germany, but they seem to be very slow and so far not really helpful. They told a friend of mine, that they can`t provide documentation.
My friend Manfred found this on the web:
    www.renault10.com/pdffiles/Manual_ZF_lok.pdf

The part we are looking for is the drive pinion (I hope it`s the correct word/expression, see picture). This part seem not avaiable any longer, despite it can be found in some Porsche too....

Does anybody have a source for this drive pinion?

    Regards Matthias

The shop that restored my Stratos in Biella, Italy buys them direct from ZF. I can check it out with them if you want. Here is the correspondence from ZF:

I believe the part numbers are for the shafts and spider gears.
