Has anybody had any experience purchasing/installing "horseshoes" on a 328 or other lip spoiler as is being currently advertised on e-bay under the parts and accessories section. I am currently refinishing and painting the lip spoiler off of my 86 GTS car and am wondering if these "horseshoes" would be a good thing to add. I asked the seller some questions, but would like to have some feedback from someone who has actually used the product. Anybody out there care to comment?

Wish they made those for 308s, for both the USA and Euro valance....

i installed a set of the "horseshoes" on my 86tr last year. easy to install and they work great. as i remember the price was only about 130 or so. they came in 3 pieces for the tr. i would guess you also get 3 for a 328.

Did he respond? I just installed a newly painted Euro spoiler on my 308.

I'm looking for a way to protect the front lip. I'm also going to get a plastic sheet to protect the belly pan of my valance--it's even lower than my old USA one...

Any advice on the best approach for spoiler lip protection? I can think of 2 approaches:
    1) A thin, stainless steel "horseshoe" around the outer leading edge..
    2) a deeper panel of stainless steel, cut to follow the forward edge, but reaching further rearward, to cover the recesses just aft of the forward lip, possibly extending back to the belly pan. This would allow a "flat bottom", which may or may not be a positive thing, aerodynamically. The Euro valance has some pretty curvy architecture on the bottom, and it may be there for a reason...

Anybody have any ideas/info on this?

I've reinforced mine on the Art Car, it bottoms pretty easy on 16"s...resisted the urge to armor it too heavily, but added aluminum rub strips and when they finally wear off, I put on new ones........

    BT,
Did you use screws, glue or rivets to attach to the lip?
How did you fabricate the strips? Are they just thin, little aluminum strips that follow the lip contour?

---using your old Euro valance--looks great in RED!

LOL! You missed a HAPPENING, at Franco's today..

Man, it was cool. Iit rained all AM, you know, then as we pulled off onto Westheimer, the sun came out!

I knew Franco and Mr. Risi were connected, but WOW!

The red carpet was lil' squishey, from the rain, but it was UNREAL!

On mine, I just put some pre fabbed AL angle around the sides of the pan as it drops down...hard to describe....but it works. That were the only areas on mine rubbing, but eventually it'll shatter the glass.

Screws directly into the frame rails above, plus a lil' Liquid Nail construction adhesive never hurt anything....

It came out well for the Baton Rouge Art car Parade.......

And, I could clear the tracks of the railroad crossing today, with confidence!

I hope someone has pics of the F430 GT2 of Mr. Risi...Val says I can have one....;)

    I love that girl..........

Cool, sorry I missed that event.

Should have my car back in my possession Monday, at that time I'll be more prone to attend Ferrari-related events!

BT, so you don't have any forward lip protection? Only belly pan protection?

You have the USA valance, right? My (your :)) Euro valance lip will surely be more prone to damage. Needing to protect it somehow..

Didn't hear back from him. In July last year you posted about going to a local place, Regal Plastics, and checking out UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) Polyethylene sheet to use as a skid plate. What happened with that? I've got a 12"x12"x1/8" piece here that I got for making corner horseshoes for my long euro spoiler but haven't done anything with it yet...

EDIT: I just heard back from the guy. He said, "I need a car for a template to make them and I don't see many of those at all." So, if one of our Southern California euro-spoilered 308 members wanted to let him use the car for a template, they'd probably get the prototype for free. The guy is in Santa Clarita, which is north of Burbank and Simi Valley off I-5.

By the way, for those of you who didn't find the auction, it's at

Different setup than the 308, but simliar in principle.

    Mike,
Indeed I did go to Regal Plastics here in Houston, and installed a plastic skid plate, on the belly pan, not the forward lip. Didn't really need forward lip protection on my USA valance..

Well, I posted in the Texas section, I was in an accident late January and my USA valance was destroyed! So, I bought a Euro for replacement. Looks great, though I may live to regret it because it's so much lower, in front and at the belly pan.

I will, again, go to Regal Plastics here in Houston and get a piece cut for my belly pan, but now I feel the need to protect to forward lip against scrapes. It's freshly-painted, and in fact still at the body shop. I hope to get it tomorrow, 5/1.

I see you're thinking of using the plastic also for your Euro forward lip. Will you cut just a thin slice to guard the curved "horseshoe" edge? How do yo plan to attach?

My plan is to drive it straight home, on smooth roads, then take off the valance and proceed w/ installing both protective measures. Hence my post.....

Yes, I plan to just cut horseshoe curves for the outer lower edges, which is where I tend to get the scrapes. I'll probably glue it on.

The last time I had the front spoiler rebuilt and repainted, I also put 3M stonegard material on it. It helps a lot with the inevitable rock chips. I bought raw material from www.xpel.com and made a pattern out of butcher paper first. Followed their instructions for installation and it looks great.

Another thing I did was to put a satin-black strip at the bottom. It looks like it belongs as if from the factory, and is MUCH easier to touch up if you do get scrapes or tiny chips in the corners or center area.

    Thanks Mike.

I too painted a black stripe along the lower edge. Saw it here somewhere, might have been your 308.

I definitely need to put a clear film on my newly-painted front end. Are there no pre-cut Euro 308 kits out there? I have a USA 308 kit I bought--never installed. Anybody wanna buy it?

Believe it or not, I think I was the first one here to do it. I did it the second time my spoiler was rebuilt/repainted, almost a decade ago. I know Steven Rochin's 308 has it also, but that's because the previous owner of his, Jeff, saw mine and liked the idea.
