First time I heard one in person I was blown away. I couldn't believe how nice it sounded after everyone was so worked up. Then a little while later I heard a 458 Speciale and I was reminded of what a truly wonderful Ferrari sounds like.

Anyways, I love both. I hope the 488 GTO gets a MEAN V8 Twin Turbo sound like the 288 GTO did. Heres a link to one of the coolest Ferrari videos ever

In my humble opinion, the 488's exhaust note live is loud. Louder than I had anticipated until I was "face to face" with the car. Louder is good in my book. It sounds louder on the outside than on the inside. OK, you may say the same regarding any car, but I believe 488 owners agree with me on this. It actually sounds more muffled from the inside and on Youtube videos.

As far as exhaust notes from turbo engines go, the 488 is actually pretty good imho. The NA folk like myself will always prefer the 458 without question, but that isn't the 488's fault: if you go turbo, that's the nature of the beast. And for what it's worth, I prefer a muffled 488 in comparison with the glorious 458, than a 488 fitted with all sorts of fake and artificial engineering to make the exhaust note sound like something the car is not.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

That RSR sounds so good. A 458 GT3 sounds amazing in person too! 488 Challenge cars I saw in person just didn't do it for me from an auditory standpoint. They are damn fast though.

For me they do. 1. I live in the city, 2. do not track my car, and 3. do not live in Germany with autobahn.

Speed stats are neutralized because of our laws. I get it though if you are 1 of the 3 mentioned above.

There should be a balance between the exhaust noise and the speed. if its too loud or soft, the interaction with the car is wanting. Ultimately, the driver determines this balance ie, which gives him the "correct input" to drive his best. The correlation with the visuals of speed and the noise should not be underestimated IMO.

Since when/how can engine sound be considered not a big deal when talking about any car, let alone an italian exotic supersports car? It's one of the main variables that makes you fall in love with a car and write a check, or give it a rain check. We keep telling people asking for advice to buy the car they fall in love with the most. Sound is somehow irrelevant in all this? A car has to speak to your senses. First impressions count when you're over the fence about buying supercar A or supercar B. You can't go back and start over, there's no such thing as a second first impression. Looks and sound play the main role here.

I wouldn't and won't buy a Tesla, any Tesla, no matter how much faster it may be on an Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, or better built, or more modern.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Not only that, but if you are one of a high percentage of people like myself that:

    1. Don't track the car

    2. Don't live in Germany near the autobahn.

    Or

    3. Live in a major city as I do

All the times, cornering, downforce stats are pretty irrelevant. I'm just a city boy putting 10,000 miles a year on my 458 spider and get to have it over 100 mph a few times a year for a minuscule amount of time but love the car just the same.

Did anyone say it was no big deal? I don't think anyone is saying that sound doesn't matter. I think the point being made is, while it may be true that the 458 sounds a little better than the 488, sound is but one component and given that the 488 bests the 458 in almost every other department, giving a little on the sounds is a small price considering what you gain everywhere else. And while it can be argued that the 488 doesn't sound as good as a 458, it's rubbish to say it's not a good sounding car. It's only by degree.

Then why on earth would you buy a Ferrari? So many other cars that would be so much more enjoyable to cruise round town in.
