I was hoping maybe someone here is either one or knows someone who is. I have written a novel that is nothing like anythinng ever written before. It is a mixture of Sifi and reality and it is a work of fiction. I sent a part of it to a couple agents and they did respond back, with way more praise than I thought was normal. It sounded more like a sales pitch. Since I have never done this before I'd rather work with someone without all the BS. Thanks in advance.

happy to help if i can. I keep my hand in, only to a degree-since there is not alot of activity for lawyers in the book publishing field, at least for pure legal work (reviewing contracts and negotiating them is not terribly lucrative for the lawyer and is very expensive for the client, unless the client is very well funded and wants legal assistance above and beyond that provided by the agent, since many, many agents are lawyers, too and are pretty qualified to negotiate legal terms in a publishing agreement; most who are really involved in the day to day business affairs of authors function as agents. Litigation of the rights is something that takes it out of the agent's hands, and that's where somebody like me often gets involved). I am not an agent, but I deal with them, mainly in NYC.
I'd be happy to give you some referrals. Offhand, i don't know who is the best in the Sci-Fi area; one way to learn this quickly is simply to pick out some of your favorite living authors, and then look up their agents. (Often the agents are credited in the forwards, so its that easy). There is an agency i deal with on the West Coast that handles L. Ron. Hubbard's stuff, but i don't know if they are taking on any new writers. The publisher who used to do alot of horror and sci-fi is TOR (i think it was "Doherty") which may have been bought up a couple years ago. YOu can email me at [email protected]
