I guess if you give to an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of cars...
Maybe back then there were less people able to drive these cars on the limit as this did not only require skills but álso the crazyness to be on the edge of life and death but driving in general should have been easier... What I try to say: a NA engine with a wider band of power and a normal clutch setup should allow a normal driver to get the car at least around the track (not talking about competetive times) but I doubt a normal driver would be able to get a 2017 out of the pits or around the first corners without either stalling or crashing... As mentioned by someone before: I suggest that the small Turbo engines with a very narrow power band were the most difficult cars. They combine todays power with less drivability, one just has to look the inboard videos of that time.. That said I still think that those driving in the top race classes (be it F1 or Rally) are still the best drivers in the world. Maybe there might be more drivers worldwide that could drive a F1 car fast but still only a handfull that can do that faster than anybody else and love him or hate him, the "little ballerina" certainly is one of them....
I'm fairly certain this was the point he was trying to get across. The computerized systems simplifies the demands of actually driving.
