I'm just putting my two cents in: I am a Ferrari guy and not a Vette, guy, but that said, the Z06 and most especially the new one is one of the best and most capable cars out there for any price, and a 348, as good as it is, does not come close in performance or speed.

As others said, its the driver that makes ALL the difference when the road gets curvy. I've seen instructors at Lime Rock Park keep up with Porsches in minivans full of students, and you cannot tell me its the stock minivan that has the juice...

For anyone who hasn't driven the new Vette Z06, DRIVE IT - its amazing. I'm not running out to buy one, but there is no denying that the car is fantastic both for speed and performance.

That said, I'm still keeping my maintenance heavy, slower Ferraris ;)

If I need tremendous power/performance, I will go back to 993TT or a 996TT and chip it. The guy I sold my 993TT to, installed a chip and is getting over 600hp! Couple that with all wheel drive and you got a beast of a machine that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay the hell more refined than a Corvette will ever be.

I've driven my share of supercharged C6's (friends cars) and the front engine configuration has never felt right. It is too easy to do burnout's without the engine weight over the rear wheels.

If value is the game, go with a mustang or camaro and supercharge it! Then you can be unique and special like every other sports car on the block.

I would not care if the Z06 had triple the power it has now. It will always say "hey this compares/beats a Ferrari" and no matter how fast the Z06 is, my "old" F355 will always sound better!

This thread is entertaining to say the least. I sold my 355 and my M3 to buy a Z06. I just needed a change and I didn't want to worry about mileage or scrapes and scuffs. I was tired of always considering where to park. I've driven all recent mid engined V8 Ferraris and I can say without a doubt there is not one that can outperform the Z06. It is truly a phenominally performing sports car. It will rape anything less than a 430. The 430 is still slower in almost all situations but it's closer. The Stradale and 430 with sticky tires will likely outcorner it and maybe out brake it slightly with the Enzo brakes but the Z06 is so much faster it's not even funny. The run flats give up alot of performance. If you gave the cars equal tires it would be suicide for the Ferrari. Don't get me wrong I love Ferraris with every last cell in my body. I have since I was a boy. I'm a rabid fan right down to my hat and my gym bag but they're just not better performers than the Z06.

What motor did Bob run in that 288? A CHEVY! I have known Bob for about 20 years and had one of his first turbo 308's when I was in College..

Bring your 400hp 914 to a track and run me against my non-world class old school '01 ZO6..

There is always gonna be something faster than a Ferrari, could be a bike or Supra or hopped up Eclipse, the Z06 deserves credit for its performance and price but your get what you pay for with Corvettes as they will begin to fall apart all over and get rattles after several 1000 miles.

I could see a definate practicality of the Z06 as Ferraris are a pain if you want to keep them nice worrying about leaving them alone along with all the attention you get driving them, you can't drive in peace its as if a spotlight is on you everywhere you go, the Z06 just blends in, though I am sure it gets its share of attention but its nothing compared to a nice Ferrari which at times is an advantage IMO to not have all the attention.

The fact is that Ferraris are the benchmark of what other cars are compared to, just like at the Wynn Dealership here with people paying $10 to see a few Ferraris you'll never get that at a Chevy Corvette dealer or Dodge Viper dealer thats says it all. as Enzo Ferrari said "We are the competition."

I love how people here say you get what you a pay for with a chevy...it will rattle within 1000 miles....

When something stupid goes wrong within 1000 miles of a Ferrari (and something will) - "it's just the character of the car."

    This entire thread is retarded.

Most people can agree that a Ferrari is an awesome car.

The Z06 is a great for what it was designed to be an "affordable" car with exotic car performance. The thing can dance - deal with it.

I'm sorry.... You guys are damn funny. I get a laugh everytime I visit.

So now the only thing going for it is the sound? I thought the point of sports cars were to be sporty and exceeding the average car in performance.

Maybe it's not about performance anymore.

Tell you what. I'm going shopping for a new car and I will look for the best sounding and most expensive car ever. Screw performance. Who needs that crap? After all, it's just a sports car. Show me a minivan with a sexy mid-engine sound for a hair over $150k and i'm sold!!!

You got it! I also love the "I can afford any car I want but I still wouldn't by a Vette bit" Bull! If all these so called rich people can afford them then why aren't they driving them? My guess is they can mortgage themselves up to thier asses to get one but they can't really afford to drive one. It's all just a big show to match thier big egos. So what if you dent your Ferrari? Is that the end of the world? Who gives a damn what it will be worth when your done with it. BTW I bought the Z in November of last year. It has almost 10K miles on it, it does not have a single rattle, and it is running like a top. Granted the rear tires were gone after about 7K but the only other thing it has needed is oil changes. I didn't even have the 348 a week and it was in the shop. Don't get me wrong I love the 348, but I would not put it up on a pedestal and worship it. It is just a car like any other, a toy to amuse us and get our testosterone flowing!

lol, like I said from the start, this thread makes me laugh. I hope indytech brings it, so SW and beat on him mercifully with his OLD Z06. An 01 at that, the one with the least stock power, then top it off with a 06 Z on runcrap tires just for fun :D

Get what you pay for? LoL. Only the C4 and older(96 was the last C4, model run over 10 years) would get rattles over time and no worse then Ferrari up to 1999, comparing to early 80s, lol.

These guys notice that their stories are being debunked by other Ferrari onwners, not just vette people?

Ya and if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle..........seriously if all you measure a car by is sheer speed you could literally pick a dozen different cars and modify them to stomp a Z06.
I think the Vette is an amazing perfomance bargain but I would never drive a modern vette, they are not my cup of tea.
The 355 is a rolling piece of art and the E55 is one of the fastest sedans in the world as is and with 15k of mods will do the 1/4 in the mid to high 10's! Another thing is when you pull up to your favourite restaurant in a 355 or E55 the car sits up front, the vette is just a vette, albeit the best bang for the buck but seriously lacking in prestige and refinement and that will never change as long as there is a bow-tie sitting on the hood!

You raced a ZO6 C6??? Let's see at least 5 yrs newer. Yup that would be right, considering the ZO6 C6 was not introduced until this year (model year 06). If you are going to talk cars make sure you have your facts straight. It should not have been hard to discern if it was a C6 or not. Its the first corvette since 62 to have no flip up headlights. Pretty easy giveaway if he was in your rear view mirror the whole time.

Also, get some therapy, you are one angry individual. Or an Nazi elitist, I'll let you chose. Or perhaps thirdly, you have pen!s envy. Hmmmm.... we will let the forum decide that one. If you look at the C6 ZO6 styling doesn't the rear end of the car look a lot like a 599GTB???? But wait how could that be, the 599 was introduced long after the C6 body style? Wait the 599 has beautiful ducting behind the front wheels and a gorgeous crease flowing from the front fender all the way to the rear quarter panel. Oh wait that looks like the C6 also. Hmmmmm.

Yes Ferrari's are extremely rare, yes they are gorgeous rolling works of art. Are they fast? Absolutely. I absolutely love the 360, F430, the 550 and 575 Maranello, the 328GTS, and the Testerosa. But just becuase you can afford one of these amazing cars, does not mean that you are a better person or a more affluent one.

Check your ego at the door. The only thing that matters is that you enjoy what you drive, and appreciate the artful forms that are Sports cars. I personally admire most vehicles for their different aspects, performance, and lines. But stop looking down your damn mightier than thou nose for a moment and give credit where credit is due. Chevrolet actually did something right for a change and I personally tip my hat to them.

Do I have a Ferrari, not at this moment, but each day that goes by gets me closer to the 360 Mondena I have been wanting. So once I am a proud prancing horse owner, I will take lessons and not be a stuck up elitist like you and indy tech. Oh and indy, please check all your facts before ranting. At least rant when you know what you are talking about.

Come on now cars are not art! If you need to have your ego stroked when you pull up to your favorite restaurant, I feel for you, your car will never fix that. I was just bustin your chops about the Mustang thing anyway. I know you were trying to be funny and I know you think your a big shot because you drive a Ferrari. Now so does everyone else. Look, if your 355 makes you feel like you have the biggest dick on the block, good for you, enjoy it!

You sound like a typical Corvette guy, you like your car good for you.

Sorry but I have owned Corvettes and been around plenty of them and they all fall apart over time, its not only from their built in design flaws but fibreglass gets stress issues as it ages along with all the cheap plastic bits, you get what you pay for.

My ego gets stroked in other ways..........:) But here in California its nice to know that when you are done eating, your car is sitting right in front and not getting hammered on by some pimply faced kid who dreams of owning a vette.
And your right I was only trying to inject some humour in this silly thread. I'm not a big shot because of the cars I drive......I love cars, always have and I get great pleasure by driving them hard and often.
As for my dick..............as long as it works for the wifey I'm OK. :)
Like I said I think the Z06 is a fantastic performance bargain and a hell of an accomplishment by the General, but not my cup o tea.

OK, some one invited me t othe rockey mountains for a personal fun run. I appreciat the invitation, but that's a little far away for me, nice thought though.

I'm sure there faster and slower Vetts out there. But for me this little V8 Powered 914 is one of the funnest things to drive I've ever had. I'm sure there are really fast cars out there, but honestly, I've never seen anything hook up and go like this thing. It's truly amazing, and I guess by todays standards it's world class performance, Because I'm sure there is not a stock vett or even maybe ferrari that will hang with this little car to around 130. Honestly my mojo runs out around that fast, no honestly. The guy I bought it from bought it for his daughter to go to college. He drove it one time and put it up for sale. He actually feared for his daughters life. My gain I guess. I'm thinking of sending it in for a paint job. I was going to give it an "Assoiciated TC3 Paint job" with all the stickers and logos and stuff. Basic all White with red trim.

For my Vettie Buddies I run the Highway 76, pretty regularly, as well as the ortega highway. Mostly very early, before 7:00 AM, or in the evening dusk.
I just enjoy driving that time of day, I rarly race anything, but any of you guys with other world class cars, since you all have qualified my porsche as "world class" I would be more than happy to buy you dinner, and have a little sprint with you. Off the road of course, in a respectful and safe and sane manner. Now if my buddy from the rockys want to drive all the way out here, I'll even let him stay in my guest house.

As I heard some say, this was a hell of a fun thread, and if I caused anyone any disrespect, please forgive me, it was mostly in jest. Corvetts are good cars, maybe not my thing any more, (I've owned 4 corvetts) but I still enjoyed owning them greatly.

I also don't understand why anyone would be judged good or bad by the car they drive. That's just silly. I drive my personal F-car for me, and just for me alone. Hell I usually just drive mine on sat or sun about sun down. I usually cruise on quite back country roads. That just who I am.

I do like to have fun though, and my little post was a lot of fun. If you want to see something really provocative, read my next thread.

    Lifes short enjoy the ride.

The point is, you have to put 15k in those to be as fast as a new stock Z.. and in all my years with lots of cars, I have yet to see many F cars run in the "mid" tens. MY 550 runs mid 12's.. Those speeds are only available with the 1M$ Enzo. Like I said before, a Ferrari is not a drag car, it's a great GT car with a great history.

Hell, my daily driver SC300 will smoke a E55 and a 355, but it makes 600hp..

You don't need to confirm your ridiculous reasoning again. Why do I have to be a typical Corvette guy? Do you even know for a fact that I even own one? Don't be so quick to judge without knowing the facts first. I don't know what vettes are falling apart on you at "several thousand miles", but i'd be concerned if I was GM, making tens of thousands of these to tens of thousands of happy American and foreign people with tens of thousands of miles on them, without your said issues.

Btw, I wouldn't care if a car was made with plexiglass and sheetrock or condoms and teeth floss. If it works and it performs, then it is impressive. If it falls short, I look elsewhere to be impressed. Sadly, short of the Enzo, this is true with any F vs. x comparison.
