San Angelo is actually a pretty cool place. Very laid back. No rushing about crazily. Just wait til summer and go tubing down the river through the center of town. I grew up in Big Spring which is exactly 86 miles north on US87. My brother graduated from Angelo State University. It is also the wool producing capital of the USA.

The next time you are out there head out to Twin Buttes and go trolling for the stripers. Some of the largest you will see.

Head over to Fort Concho to get a taste of the early west. Go by Ms. Hatties on Concho St or Ellemeyers General Store. Swing by the San Angelo State Park and see the bison herd up close. And do not be surprised to see a 10 point buck strolling through the outskirts of town.....Lots of stuff to do if you know where to look.......

And some great steaks at Zetners Steak House or Zetners Daughter.....

You see.........in East Texas, we go (have gone) trolling for strippers and we don't really want the "largest you will see"...

As for "Zetners daughters" I have no affiliation...

    Just thought I could enlighten....

Yeah, its growinng on me. Very laid back, like mentioned. Added benefit is that Im nearly far enough away from Richardson that I can only faintly smell Jimpo's bullsht.

You should clarify that this picture wasn't taken through a window and that the snow and sky was in fact brown with dirt lol.

I didn't enjoy living in Midland very much.

You should have gone down to the BTA building and introduced yourself to Carty Beal. I am sure he would have given you a ride in either his (then) McLaren, his Enzo. his Veyron or one of his Lambos. He might even have given you a ride in the Bell Jet Ranger or one of his trophy off-road trucks. Then gone on over to the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum and viewed the Chaparral Gallery of Jim Halls Cars. There are a few other Ferrari owners out there that also have some pretty interesting stories if you know where to look.

BTW, I agree with the red dirt. The spring/summer/fall sandstorms are no fun at all. That stuff will get everywhere.....

You might call BTA in Midland and see if Carty is there. He will usually talk to whoever calls in. If you get through tell I said hello. You might drop my name and let him know I still talk about the time he brought the McLaren to Arlington while going through helo refresher training. Ask about what cars he has now and he will probably invite you over to see them or his trophy trucks. I have not spoken to him in a long time (since I worked at Baillargeon Audi). Called a couple of times but he was in Aspen with the family.......

Head out to MAF (Midland-Odessa International Airport) and check out the Commemorative Air Force Museum. And if you can go for the yearly show it is very well worth the trip........
