Hello everyone, i'll be an exchange student from the end of this month until January at the University of Torino near Milan. I have never been to Italy, let alone Europe, and was wondering if anyone had insight as to places I might visit in regard to exotic cars, or areas where they are popular, events...anything of the sort pretty much, would appreciate any advice or info!
Monza circuit www.monzanet.it Ferrari museum, near Modena Lamborghini museum in S. Agata Bolognese, near Modena Pagani Factory but, the best of Italy, is food. Visit too many tipical restaurants.
your going to the best country in the world... i'm planning my retirement in Italy.... whenever you are,you are always going to see beautiful cars, beautiful people... you'll love it...Milan is a great city...
Although its not Italy and a bit of a trip from Milan, if you get a chance you should try and visit the Nurburgring in Germany Of course on an open day when you'll be able to do a few laps (provided you have a car and a bit of money). Doing a lap on the Nordschleife is the equivalent of visiting Mecca for car nuts
University of Torino near Milan??? That's like saying I'm at UCLA near San Francisco. ;-))) Torino is Fiat country. Try the Lingotto Fiat factory with the rooftop test track for a piece of history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingotto
Call for a factory visit with some of your class mates - trust me, just being in Maranello will secure some pretty good sightings. Also, check out the race tracks, not just Fiorano but also Mugello, they may not be near per say but you can organise a wonderful day out if you check up on what is happening. Also Lamborghini (no one shoot me for mentioning them on this site pls) is only 30km away from the Ferrari factory... at the risk of feeling like a traitor you can organise to see both places in one day. Enjoy!
I don't know if you speak Italian already (it's possible I suppose), but if you don't then a must-do is to get a phrasebook/cassette/CD thingy and learn some basic sentences as soon as possible. Italians are really taken by anyone trying to learn their language. Plus, "cameriere, il conto per favore" will impress the lady you're with a lot more than "waiter, the bill please". Places to visit: too numerous to mention but if you've never been to Italy I do recommend the famous spots: Rome, Venice, Siena, Florence. Italy is much more than those places but they are spectacular nevertheless. As mentioned before: try as much food as possible! It's all gorgeous. I'm going back for the first time in 11 years in just over 3 weeks, and with a Ferrari! I can't wait!! Onno
Haha I'll keep that phrase in mind. My italian is pretty horrible right now but I'm working on it with audio tapes, and I have to take 15 hours of classes a week for my first month purely to learn the language. I leave on August 31st. Thanks for the advice so far everyone - greatly appreciate it! There's definitely many things I want to check out throughout Italy (especially food) and cars is definitely one of them. I'll surely be making a trip to Maranello asap among other mentions. I can't wait.
eheh,i went there twice and loved it...but my favorite places are Ostuni (spend an amazing month working there) and Capri...i want my retirement to be there...
Ummm, I grew up in Torino. You're not exactly going to be in a suburb of Milan. In fact, not even in the same region. All the same, I think the Piemonte is more beautiful, the wine is phenomenal, and I'm jealous. I miss my days there. Drive south to the Adriatic....visit Portofino and you're sure to see a few exotics parked there as many celebs like to park their yachts in Portofino. Visit the Ferrari and Lamborghini factories. I hate to admit this, (as I'm a Ferrari lover/owner) but you'll have a more personalized tour of the Lamborghini factory. Good luck.
I am sure it was an error, but the Adriatic sea is on the Trieste - Venezia side ( the east side of the boot ). Cheers.
benvenuto in italia, turin is not near milan, is about 180-200 km, but is not very far from montecarlo (220 km), piedmont is a great place for wine and food, there are a spectacular place near alba (langhe) with the most prestigious wine in italy like barolo and barbaresco. i'm at 80 km from turin, if you need other info you can conctact me in pm. ciao ciao davide
Museo Nazionale dellAutomobile C.so dItalia 40, http://www.museoauto.org It is appropriate that the countrys most important car museum should be found in the seat of the Italian capital of car production, in a country that has contributed so many great designs and so much flair to the car industry down the decades. Conceived by Amedeo Albertini, it was opened in 1960 and takes visitors on a history of the development of the car, from the evolution the tyre via early steam-powered vehicles to the present day. Cars from all over the world are represented. Among the many famous models on display is a 1901 Fiat, an Itala, winner of the 1907 Peking-Paris rally, and a Cistalia 202 as well as a Ford Model-T and, of course, a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost from 1914. Enjoy
lived there for two years. there is very little to dislike. rome is my favorite place. get hold of a fodr's guide and be a tourist the entire time you are there.
I live half mile from it and at the moment it's closed for restoration. What are you going to study here?
