    Hello,

I am about to get stationed(Marine Corp) in either Calif or NC. I am thinking that instead of buying a home, I am going to buy a 40-50 boat and live on it. Has anyone had any experience with living on boats before? Did they enjoy it?

    Thanks for your help!

We have a 60 foot power boat and I find it much too small for anyone to live in. Plan on spending at least one million dollars for anything 50-60 feet plus an additional $30K-$50K per year in maintenance. Fuel, slip fees, insurance, dockage, etc are not cheap. As for mileage, we get about 3 gallons to the mile. Yes, 3 gallons to the mile.

Do yourself a favor and buy a house. It is much cheaper and if you owe any type debt, a boat is an asset that can easily be levied against.

A boat is a great thing for a friend of yours to own.
