I'm sure most of you will like to know, (well some of you), that the LM is up
and running again. My mechanic (Graeme Vincent), informs me something about a selector folk being caught in some position that it shouldn't and no damage done of any discription. All is back together.
BUT what I should do is take some photos of the gears in this thing, because you've never seen anything like it. The gears are monsterous. Bullet proof I think were the words Graeme used. words like, massive, like a truck (please Phil, I don't want to hear about the Mclaren again), unbelievable, never seen anything like it, my poor old 308, bloody hell, etc. etc.
    regards..gil

Sounds like a driver error, then Gil?

peter, i have be insulted by the best, and your not one of them. (do you like that), no it's not a driver error, something came loose in the gear box (which has never been apart), and just got caught. GV could tell you more about it.
The main thing is that it is now fixed and no damage done to the car, which is my first concern. GV said the gears are in prestine condition with no wear whatsoever. That's a miracle considering the way that you have to bash the thing into gear because of the straight cut gears.
ps I was wondering when you were going to surface.

Hey Gil, Don't get me wrong. Your LM is one of the greatest RACE cars ever... BUT what amazes me about the Mclaren is that it's a ROAD car, and can be driven like a Honda Civic or a F40LM depending on what tyres it has fitted!!

Great to hear the box wasn't anything terminal... Didn't you have a clutch fitted recently...? that needs the linkage to be disconnected, but whatever, thank god it's all right...as bits wouldn't be found too easily/cheaply for that.

Yes, the gears/selectors are pretty much bomb proof. To smash the lever through while delivering over 800BHP on slicks takes some meat, and to do it for a 30 hour lifespan is even more impressive..... (I hope you're keeping an accurate log of hours/km for that car)

Not implying anything GV, sorry if you took it that way. It's just that Gil said the box had never been apart... but of course it has been removed and re-installed several times.... just curious what the exact failure was, I suppose.

Good to see it out again.

Hope to see it at the Island on friday for the charity drive day??

Should be a good selection of cars there it seems....
