Thanks for the info. Yes I keep hearing bad story about them. Good for the engine but bad for the headers in the long run.
mostly I found them to just be a PIA, with no real improvement, in performance or preventing heat from the footwells ...the best change I made (noticeable heat shielding) were to make up some stainless steel sheets heat guards, which mounted under the car, to the floorboards (about 1/8-1/4" air gap)
Ceramic coating the headers is more expensive, but maybe better. I had mine on the Countach coated inside and out. IIRC I paid about $400 to have it done.
Found this clip from a friemd in Holland : Lamborghini LM002 vs. Range Rover Sport Supercharged | Auto video's - AutoWeek.nl Cool
I installed header wrap on a previous car, when I removed it I couldn't believe how much surface corrosion it had caused. You would think a hot header would immediately boil or eliminate moisture, I don't understand what caused the corrosion but I witnessed it myself
I guess I must be a bit mad, I have just bought a 1990 LM002, and am working on getting it shipped back to Europe, I know it is going to require a bit of work, it has an oil leak that looks to be coming from one of the plug sleeves and is running onto the exhaust manifold, so I guess I will be getting the spanners out, most of the car looks pretty straight forward and over engineered, the only thing that really worries me is the motor, if that gives trouble, you will be in for a big bill
Congratulations on Your new purchase ! Please give us pics. I hope it is just a leaky gasket. Cheers, Taffy
I will post pictures as soon as I get it back into Europe, an oil leak from the top of the motor, should be either cam cover or the sparking plug sleeve, but until it is pressure washed, it is had to tell, on thing none standard is it has two spare wheels, one in the normal position and one on the inside of the gate, this I have never seen before, as soon as I get stuck into it, I am sure there will be plenty more post (cry's for help!!!!)
Awesome thread. Can't wait to hear the Ansa setup! I wouldn't...have heard a few horror stories. A friends' car also burnt down due to hot oil spitting on the wrap and causing it to go in flames. Use Zircotec coating instead!

$10k titanium pipe with $1k clamp... from Boeing 717/MD-90. Makes Lambo parts looks cheap BTW .. this titanium pipe is used for TOILET. LOL 30 meters of pipe on a plane... more expensive than a Superleggera Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Rob, At first we thought the pipes could be used for the LM exhaust, but we have a classic E34 BMW M5 track car project, we may need titanium pipes for that car instead. I was shocked to know the list price of 1m aircraft certified titanium pipes and clamps. Unreal.
Wow. Thats one expensive exhaust project. I'm enjoying this thread and can't wait to see the completed project. best Rob
Hi Rob, My friend got those pipes for almost free Thanks for Your interest in the LM project. Cheers, Taffy
Boring day today... tomorrow is a Holiday. I cannot send my Headers to thermal coating place until Wednesday. In the meantime the 1/43 RHD is also under construction Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
