Chad , not particulates or water but BLENDING with other industrial chemicals after the fuel leaves the refinery to increase the retailers margin, in the old days of subsidized kerosene we could have 30% of kerosene in the fuel (there was a 4 times difference in price between kerosene and petrol).

I don't know what the flavor of the month chemical is at the moment but both Taffy and I warped 2 BMW M5 cylinder heads 3 weeks apart this year. Neither car was being pushed at the time.

Hi Taffy, Can you tell me what the trigger is in front of the oil cooler pump driven off the L/H exhaust cam. It is not ignition spark, they are on the top of the flywheel housing

There is also another sensor on the flywheel down at the bottom.
Oh, You already mention that one, sorry.

"Home" is the camshaft sensor, while the two sensors on the flywheel for ignition sensor for the left and right ECUs (front for right ECU and rear for the right ECU IIRC)

Short summary is we completed a 30 minute first test drive of the LM002 , 15 minor faults to be rectified and further remapping of the engine computer , we made it to the petrol station and back without breaking down (which is a challenge for a new Lamborghini let alone a 24 year old one)

I got the honor as I'm used to handling a 6 metre long 2 metre wide Jeep pick up in Jakarta's traffic

Still way down on power , we are hitting a software limit somewhere anytime we try and pull hard on the road with a load (going up a hill) and its going into limp mode requiring an engine off and restart to reset it so we need to get the Haltech man back to see what's happening. It will rev fine out of gear in the workshop.

I love the suspension , this is the first time I've had a chance to really drive the LM other than on and off a car carrier. Lambo have done a great job in combining handling, long travel to soak up bumps (and speed humps) and good quality ride

Steering on Taffy's LM is tight and surprisingly precise , like a new car (it's only done 7,500km)

Steering position feels awkward when you first get in but after 5 minutes I didn't notice it and the seats were surprising comfortable.

Gearbox feels clunky at first but once you get the hang of it it shifts smoothly and it's ok

We got a bit of clutch slip when we tried to get on the power and we need to look at that again (it's a new clutch)

Turning circle is an abomination and we need to see how we can improve on that.

We have further work to do on the brakes , new front pads have been put in but the rear brake pads need relining and we need to bleed the system again.

No oil leaks , water leaks and the water temp was 170 to 185 deg F

The horn is a joke , to put it on the end of the indicator stalk is like something from a 1960's Euro econocar.

JW Speaker headlights were a big disappointment , at idle with 13 volts they're still flickering , when not flickering the beam is wide and gives good illumination. JW need to sort that problem out, we'll probably reinstall the original headlights if we can't solve the problem. Last ditch attempt is taking power from the starter motor cable and putting a bigger relay in.

We're going to redesign the fuel filler , it's a 20 minute job to fill the tank with the bowsers here , the bend in the fuel filler can't handle a high flow rate.

Overall the tech team did a great job, the 15 item fault list is mostly minor things. Another 2 to 4 weeks of minor detailing work and fine tuning but overall it feels like an almost new car.

One further mod we're going to do is to install a fire bomb fire extinguishing system in the engine bay. This system is normally used for putting out 737 engine fires so should be more than ample for a Lambo V12. It uses an explosive squib cartridge and will be manually fired by the driver in an emergency . It will have a safety wire locked missile switch in the console and the 'bomb' will fit under the RHS rear pax compartment seat with a high pressure braided stainless steel line running to nozzles left and right of the engine.

I'll post a video later tonight or tomorrow morning.

The number 1 thing I can say is the LM002 is a head turner and traffic stopper , nobody has seen anything like it for a while (it's been undriveable for 10 years).

The most humorous incident of the evening was the reaction of a military policeman when we returned to the military base (where my workshop / office is) and had to go through a check point. He didn't know what the hell he was looking at , he knew me as the driver but what this weird vehicle was had him confused.

Kudos to Taffy for his patience , great attitude and funding everything to do it properly.

Other than the turning circle once you got used to it you could come to love this LM , I can see how it would creep up on you.

The Italians aren't so dumb after all.

Looking forward to the next drive.

    Excellent post-drive writeup Tony.

    Thank You Chad,
The first test drive (about 10km) was very good.
The engine does not like any load due to an automatic failsafe built into the ECU software setting. We will have to tune it further.
Now at least we know what minor things we need to improve and/or change.

Truly great work from the team.

Sounds like play time for you guys after a lot of hard work!!!!
Two points that you mention, one - the steering lock, it is a joke, but if you adjust the stops back, the trackrod fouls the edge of the wheel rim, two - the filler tube angle, it take for ever to fill, cannot wait to get mine out on the road.

Progress is a bit slow, but I do everything myself, and as I am sure you are aware, most things you touch need a bit of attention, and finding the right parts can be a challenge, I am just ordering new custom made inlet trunking and gaiters for the bump stops, the original ones are not damages, but look a bit of a mess.
I have completed the interior, and now working through mechanical issues, tidying the wiring up, changing all the hoses, belts etc, I do not intend doing anything with the bodywork until I am happy that mechanically it is sound, the body will require a re-paint, there is no rust or damage.
Then when I have finished, I have the same to do on the 512bb!!!! Keeps me out of the Pub.

    @Nick:
Lots of work and patience. Lucky You live in Europe, parts delay is much faster than here.
But the end result will be worth the hardwork. Can't wait to see yours done.

    Thanks for the pics

I see there is lots of room (finally, a very rare occasion in an LM) underneath for bigger expansion chambers.

There's not a lot of room , there is JUST enough room.

In fact the chambers are 40% smaller than I wanted but they should be ok.

    Only 60% ?
You can have 100% if You sacrifice ground clearance (which is no problem at all)

I can compensate to some point with a large volume crossover , I don't want to sacrifice ground clearance as it detracts from the basic vehicle design.

We'll see how these turn out once the ECU is set up properly , 60% meets the basic requirements I needed , had we had more room I would have gone bigger.

The space problem starts right after the gearbox , the transmission tunnel necks right in.

The 110mm dia pipes are a perfect fit where they are in diameter , just enough clearance from gearbox mounts , transmission tunnel and oil lines.

We should be able to hear the result tonight.

Effect on power will have to wait for the ECU final set up and dyno run.
