I was cleaning out my garage and came across some boxes filled with old office supplies. One of the boxes had an old Brick Cel Phone! WOW what great memories. I plugged it in and turned it on. It read "No Service" for a second then it gave me a Roam signal. I then proceeded to dial out and it rang for a few rings then a recorded message from AT&T picked up saying something about subscription info. COOL!!

Anyone currently using a brick phone? I’m thinking of Re-activating this piece of nostalgia.

Just thinking of the image of me walking into my local F-Car dealership with my brick phone in hand will be worth every penny!

    I can see it now…

Pimp (Strutting into F-car dealership with Brick Phone raised to ear) “Yeah…Yeah…Just sell all my thirty-million shares…yeah I’ll take cash…”

(Ending call and returning phone to big black holster on belt)

Pimp.. “Hello! (Stretching arms in disbelief towards sales staff) What’s it take to get some service around here!?”

    LMAO!!!

    PD

I cannot count how many times I have been in the dealership watching some Shmo walk in with his cell phone to his ear chatting away to some unknown person only to end by saying “Ok…well I’m at the Ferrari dealership now and need to speak to the salesman, can I call you back…”

    LMAO!

The problem I have doing this is that I’m well known at the dealership. It would be funny but perhaps I’ll get some F-car shots with me driving around town with the phone to my ear.

Yeah, i still have my first cell phone, circa the mid-80's, packed in a box somewhere. I think it weighed about a pound and a half without the battery. I would love to have one of those WWII vintage things to walk around mid-town Manhattan with, spouting nonsense. Maybe its just my reaction to seeing families with young children sporting their own cellphones: never to young to learn some bad manners. And, so cute. You just wanna cut 'em up and make pie out of 'em. In the meantime, here's my subtle, what, you gotta problem with me being on the phone phone:

Ah yes the good ol days! It blew my mind when I plugged this one in and it still worked and even allowed me to make calls! Now if I can only figure out how to get my E-mail off it I'll be using the Brick for now on! These new phones are so d@mn small I cannot rest them on my shoulder while I drive!

Today I need one hand on the phone, one taking notes and a knee to keep my car on the road! Back then (100 years ago) it was easier with the Brick propped between my shoulder and ear, one hand on the wheel and other taking notes!

I've got a box somewhere with one of those, a couple of bag phones, and a couple motorola flip phones in it. I would like an old 3 watt phone installed in my car. I get in places where my GSM phone won't work at all.

I heard a story a while back, I may have read it on here. A guy was riding the subway and there was a guy talking loudly on his cell when all of a sudden it started ringing. lol.

Hey now, i remember SELLING those phones. They were about $1,500 and it cost approximately $1/min (depending on the plan you had). i still have my Motorola 8000H (brick phone) in the trunk of my Honda in case of emergencies. They are ANALOG phones so BE CAREFUL what you say when using them, anyone with a good scanner can hear your call.

Back in those days we would listen in on calls. Oh the stories i could tell...

This happened to a cousin of mine. It was when the slim flip-phones (motorola micro-tac?) were brand new. he was in the shopping mall with my uncle's phone when the damn thing rang. The look on his face was priceless. :D

    PD,

Unfortunately you'll only get a 1m30 talk time unless you get the extended battery. Your choice of metal or leather suitcase.

The BIG one has an amazing 3 watts of output. i remeber selling those as well.. for about $899 or so. They have MUCH beter range than the Motorola 8000H (800mW output i think).

I had cellular one and radiofone in Louisiana.

Back before bellsouth became cingular they used to sell 3 watt installed analog car phones. I don't think they even offer the service any more.
