a few showing the beach area at Portimao - the water "exercise" course was fascinating (never have seen that before), large group in the water were dancing to Beach Boy music (thought we were in San Diego for a minute!), delicious lunch at the Castle of St. George and subsequent view, if you drink wine-you'll appreciate these trees that are part of the cork farming, cool ferry

Thanks for the photos Carol! What a gorgeous place, and I love the track. I too hope the LMS returns there next year, although a little bit later in the year so the temps are a bit cooler, and starting with an extra hour of daylight wouldn't hurt either.

Gary, You're quite welcome - the track is really unlike any others that I've seen with all the turns, opportunity to watch several ensuements at one time, elevation changes - it may be hard to see in one of the photos but I could just imagine the first turn had they used the chicane. Actually by the time it became dark, it was a tad chilly - many people in the stands were wrapped in blankets. During the day it was very comfortable with a light breeze. There is suppose to be a Radisson Hotel located there at the circuit plus apartments eventually, meanwhile, Portimao suffices quite nicely in it's place. This is by far the cleanest track and place I've been to - no one litters! Then entire motor park seems quite compact and most functional. There was a 512M just parked in one of the main parking lots among all the other cars, something unheard of around here! If they do this race again next year, the combination of the race and the Portimao area and Lisbon area would make for one fantastic holiday. It's not nearly expensive as you might imagine. The Jupiter Hotel in Portimao was 100€ inc bkfst per night; Radisson which is closest hotel to the Lisbon airport was somewhere about 80€ per night, add to that in Lisbon the Metro and you have fantastic train service and ferry service to explore away from town. With a little judicial planning it can be a very reasonably priced racing holiday (actually in the ballpark of having gone to the ALMS race at Lime Rock). It did seem a bit strange seeing Pedro Lamy handing out trophies rather than being on the receiving end. He's one of the instructors at the circuit.

Thanks for your comments, they are very much appreciated.

    Carol

Hm, it's a possibility. I'll talk to my wife tonight and see what she thinks. I'm glad she's cool with this stuff, and never really says no. She brings up the other things I always forget to think about. :)

PS. I just loved the QP "Superstars" racecar.....

We'll have to get one of those next year - just for driving the management around!
