1000 KM of Monza LMS race this past weekend. Ferrari 430's took GT2 podium. Petersen White Lightning withdrew it's 430's from Le Mans this year and next alternate is GPC with their 430. They took first in GT2 at Monza. Some photos taken of cars in the paddock, cars in the pits about 30 minutes prior to start and in parc ferme (gives the "as raced look"). I'll also include a few of the classics from Saturday. Enjoy . . .

More . . . there was a CER - Classic Endurance Racing race on Saturday. The Lola that's all duct-taped in the front was in 3rd place for quite awhile until his retirement . . talk about determination (I also don't think the Lola front ends are just readily available). And yes, the Dodge from France was in the CER - he also finished. Winner in the CER was the Porsche #1.

What was really neat about the race at Monza is that you could virtually go anywhere to watch the race. We spent time at Ascari and during the F1 race in September, the seats we were in are like 333GPB pp - ouch. We also spent time in the seats at pit out. Monza is a lovely royal park.

Wow, great pix, wish I was there. Two favorites are the "as raced" closeup of the hood badge and the mechanics pushing the Panoz while "checking out" the passing lady (a classic guy thing to do).

You're welcome. I got an extra kick out of the "vintage" BMW M racers. Reminds me of my youth when the Procar series was the event before the F1 race. Piquet, Jones, Surer duking it out in identical cars. <sigh>

Great pics. The Peugeot P1 looks good. Is that the same car JV will be associated with at Le mans. Will miss the Astons in the US.

    Good morning Michael,

Yes, it's the same car. I think it will be a great P1 race at Le Mans. I too miss the Astons in the US but go to Petit and perhaps you might see one! What I am wondering is if Luc Aplhand will bring his C6's to the US prior to Interlagos. He won the GT1 class last weekend at Monza.

Our friends from London came this direction and went to the race at Las Vegas - same one as you if I recall. How did it go for you??

Saturday will be interesting race - thankgoodness after this weekend they are back to a real circuit.

Thanks for comments on the photos.

Vegas street course, plus 1st time street course equals bugs. But 5 hrs. a day at the track and then Vegas was a fun trip. I have more vintage F1 pics than Champ. Dual fences everywhere make the pics tuff. Access to pit lane and inside areas changed with the gatekeepers. Long story.

I'll do ALMS at Mid-Ohio, and return to Road Atlanta. I'm looking at Road America. My son's sports schedule will dictate.

Long story sounds not so good for the spectators. We look forward to catching up with you again at Road Atlanta and let us know if you're coming to Road America, catch you there too.

    Sked for today's ALMS:
    11:35 - 12:35 - practice for all
    5:00 - 6:00 - practice for all
    6:10 - 6:30 - qualifying GT1 & GT2
    6:40 - 7:00 - qualifying P1 & P2

I'll be glad when they're off the street circuits.

    Have a great day.

thanks Brian - don't you just love the sportcars ? ? ? We had access to all of the Monza track - any seat - compared to the F1 races and our "package" thru the Le Mans Series was 185 euro each for the weekend - had buffet lunch in one of the prior pictures with the LeMans flags (left side - right side was for the Classic Endurance Race folks).

Thanks - headed to Houston early in the am for the ALMS race there. Oh yes, I think I'll trade my Audi A4 for the RS4 in the prior photos . . .what do you think??!!

What did you think of the Peugeot 908? There's a good article on it in the February Race Tech magazine.

I think my description is much the same as John's after seeing it in person . . . looks much like the Bentley of several years ago. The closest we got to it was standing in the garage door prior during the pit walk prior to race start. First thought is that is looks slightly smaller than it's major competitor the R10 and Henri's Pescarolos but perhaps it's the coupe that provides a slightly different comparison. Sound wise, we did not hear it start (we've heard the R10 on several occasions and it reminds me of one of my Chevy diesel trucks). On the start straight and coming out of Ascari when it was running alone, to me it was louder than the R10 in a similar circumstance. They did have problems with the #7 during the race (it took third place). Jacques Villeneuve and Sebastian Bourdais will be teaming up with the 908 crew for Le Mans. My prediction is that there's going to be a great "battle" between the R10 and 908 at Le Mans this year. The 908 is fast.

I hope that when the cars at LM go to coupes they won't all look-alike as the Grand Am DP cars do.
