I've owned 05082 for eight years now and enjoyed taking it on many local FCA events as well as to other regions; Pacific, SW, and Desert Region FCA. It is a rare, European version GTS that the Dino Compendium shows only 401 in total production. In addition, this has the truncated front bumper trim molding, Daytona seats, and electric window options. The Dino Register shows this was the very last Dino produced with the "clapping" style wiper blades. While 05082 is truly special to me and I have enjoyed driving the "peaky" power band that Euro versions boast, the paintwork had always bothered me. The tint was slightly off, it was splotchy and previous owners had added extra badges.

Bottom line; it needs paint, but where do you go?

I searched around for a shop to do the bodywork and paint with my first stop being the NWR-FCA club newsletter

There, I discovered options but I needed to stay within a budget.

Frome their ad in the club newsletter, I contacted Chris Jones of Canyon Auto Rebody (CANYON AUTO REBODY, STAYTON OREGON) and was impressed with the solutions he presented. Instead of expensive media blasting they are situated in an area where environmental regulations permit chemical stripping. They do all metalwork and paint in house, have worked on prior Ferraris, and use high grade materials with modern processes. I visited several times and liked the results of work I had seen.

In light of the upcoming Ferrari Club of America Tech Session, I thought I would post a few photos as a teaser of what we will see. I know I have learned a lot about what it takes to paint a Ferrari and would like to share these with the rest of the membership.

I've also found that being informed saves costs.

Please consider attending the FCA event, free lunch and beverages included, full question and answer session by master chassis restoration experts, metal workers and painters there. See the Ferrari Club calendar for details

05082 arrives at C.A.R., conversion back to original Euro proceeds, then enters the stripping phase. Chris is hands-on at every step of the way

That should be fun, and easy for the Oregon contingent to attend. How many hours drive is it from Seattle? How much time from Portland?

If you are cavalier about speed limits, 45 minutes; if not, an hour and 10. Mostly I-5, so pretty well patrolled.

    :)

A few more as progress continues. LOTS of Bondo is being removed.
Many folks drive around and have no idea what is underneath these old cars.

Lather, rinse, repeat until you get down to metal
That Haz mat collection box is getting quite full ...

Come see it a week from Saturday!

Once stripped, an immediate sealant is applied made of reducer added to primer.
This secures the metal without allowing it to rust. Next step will be metalwork

Yes, check your TXT or see the club newsletter

Chris & co. do great work at fair rates. Just had my '69 911 in the shop and saw your Dino. Looking forward to the finished product. Let's go for a drive in Oregon wine country (my home stompin' grounds). Tastings on me.

The front chin usually gets beaten up on Dinos driving over speed bumps. Here Chris completes an absolutely beautiful restoration of the Dino's front end. Look at that body line too and not a spot of bondo!

I owned this Dino serial no. 05082 for 24 years. Bought it from a close friend who I grew up with Steve Loehr
I was 24 years of age. Sold it to Dick Clark’s in house accountant. I can only guess he sold it to Scott. Many stories about this car. It was black when I bought it. I had a bare metal repaint to Rossi Cielo. The original color was Fly Yellow.
