Saw a local posting yesterday for a Canadian 2004 Stradale. I called the dealer and had a conversation only to find out that it has a rebuilt title from 2-3 years ago.

The rebuild was a $65K hit to the front of the car and it is also missing the OEM Challenge wheels. Always wanted a CS but guy wants $117K for it which seems steep given the significant blemish and 40K kms / 24K miles.

Thoughts on what this is really worth?

Apologies guys..meant to post this in the 360/430 section and have asked Mods to fix. I've been spending too much time lately admiring the TRs and 512s. :)

Too many nice 360cs cars around for the 155-175 range in the dealer network in the US.

This car is priced ok for what it is, but 117k CDN sure gets you many other car options.

Why spend this kind of money on a blemished car ?

Hard to say...I imagine that abomination of a steering wheel takes a fair bit of value off :)

Seems a little high to me but then I'm selling my CS without salvage but with "high" miles (38K) for 120k so maybe I'm biased.

That's what I keep telling people. And if I've said it once I've said it a million times, the higher mile car's I've owned have ALWAYS run better than the lower mile cars. I used to think it was just my imagination but my local independent is in full agreement.

Now if I can just find an F40 with 50K+ miles on it all will be well in the world.

It's value is only going up. One day nobody will care about it's title.

I disagree. Title status will never change and it is the ultimate and original form of a Carfax. In California that car would even have a "title" it would have a "salvage certificate", they look the same, but a salvage car is totally different.

Most upper end auctions won't consign a salvage title, a lot of insurance companies won't touch them, and there isn't a traditional bank that will do a car loan on one. And then you have the whole other consideration of how well was it repaired? It will never be a s good as day one from Modena.

Certainly not enough reasons to not buy one, but definitely enough reasons to know that even in many years it will still be cared about.

The TV show Chasing Classic Cars has wrecked and rebuilt, valuable classics on it all the time.

Come on Jason, you don't actually believe that there is reality in a reality show do you? That is all scripted BS as is all of the other car sales based shows. Don't be a victim of Hollywood, it's entertainment, that's it.

But reality tv although scripted, are often based on some kind of truth. To me the title will matter but not as much as time passes..

I don't think Chasing Classic Cars is like the Kardashians. Are you implying the restoration of the cars and the auction footage is fake?

    Forget that analogy.

What's a "wrecked 30 years ago Daytona's" value compared to a garage queen Daytona with no miles?

Yep u have to understand there are different types of reality tv... Documentary, docusoap, game shows, competition, one off etc.. they are not synonymous

So when they restore a car that footage is CGI? When they're at an auction that footage is staged? I go to Amelia Island every year and watch the auction. They're there filming. It looks the same as what I see on tv.

This format would probably fall under documentary style reality tv. I would imagine producers find classic cars that are tv worthy and exaggerate the value as much as possible to draw an audience and make the show interesting. Same as pawn stars or any other restoration, classic car show..I won't be surprised to see the CS on there one day

the question whether a wrecked classic is valuable is irrelevant. Of course it's valuable. The more pertinent question is is the classic as valuable as a comparable one that wasn't crashed.
The crashed CS above is more valuable than my Honda that's mint - even before restoration. However, that CS is worth less than an no-story CS.

No, I'm not implying the restorations are fake, they are done out of order and not by everyone that is on TV, but they are restored. Your comment about CGI is a bit dramatic, all I meant was to not take it at face value.

What is set up is the buy, the purchase amount, the dialogue, most of the remaining process. I don't watch much of CCC, I don't care for it, too much set up for me, so I don't know if they auction the dirty title stuff, my guess is they don't.

I have a very good friend that produces similar type of shows, my information around this isn't speculation. I also go to auctions here on the West coast, I will be at RM and Mecum later this week in Monterey. I am sure I will see the cameras there with Wayne and the whole crew as I do every year, but going every year for the last decade, I have yet to see a rebuilt or salvage title car cross the block at either venue.

    Yup.

One poster here said it was worth $70K as a "track car". I wouldn't part with it for $70K if I were the seller. If I bought it for $70K I wouldn't use it as a track car.

I don't care. I never should have made that analogy.

You never answered the other question I asked in my post in the last page........ What's the value of a wrecked and restored Daytona compared to a mint one?

I'm not sure what you don't care about, but I guess I don't care that you don't care, lol.

As far as the Daytona question, do you mean a restored and repaired Daytona with a clean title or one with a salvage?

The title status is what really varies the value in my opinion, that's a blemish you cannot change, and I think a salvage title vehicle is worth at least half of one that isn't.

Sounds like you may watch more of the TV based auction stuff then me, have you ever seen a salvage title cross the block? That's not a challenge, just curious.
