Im trying to replace the left hand (driver side in the U.S.) lock actuator. Someone had put the passenger side unit on the driver so that it wouldn't unlock the passenger side when the door was unlocked. Anyone know of a guide on how to do this? I did a search and I couldn't find anything.

Pretty simple job. With the door panel removed and watershield peeled back and window glass fully raised, remove two Phillips button head screws securing lock actuator to the lock bracket--there are two holes in the inner door skin to access these screws (photo #1). Disconnect electrical connector at the bottom of the actuator. Now maneuver the actuator inside the door to free the rod from the lock mechanism (or unhook at the actuator--the rod has an open loop at that end). Now just withdraw the actuator--takes a bit of fiddiling but not difficult. The next photo shows the approximate area where the screws go but they are on the other side of the actuator and not actually shown. The final picture shows the holes in the lock bracket that the screws go through and the nylon bushing that the lock actuator rod goes through (RH side shown). Good luck!

I'm aware of the difference and this is why I am switching it. Whomever replaced it before I bought the car put the right hand side one in. Just for future people reading this post the driver side unit has two electrical connections. The second connection sends the unlock signal to the other door to open it when the key is used. The passenger side only has one and does not open the driver. t meSt that is how I read the function on the electrical schematics.

Perfect! This is what I was looking for. I didn't see the two cap screws but I do this tonight. Now if I can just get the headlight issue figured out I'm ready for the Pinehurst concours
