THAT is a lot of money in bodywork and paint AND interior. You have to get the car for free.

What a joke. At least start the auction at $500 and let the bid speak for itself. 20k? wtf? We have seen running "ok" cars for around that price.

  3. Anyone see what it sold for at the insurance auction?

That would be a cool motor and gear box to install in a old Fiat 500 , that would be awesome , but not for $20 G`s .

What the seller doesn't show is the damage on the front of the car. I was advising the previous owner, as well as the insurance adjuster on this car. It is true, that the previous owner did in fact run off the road into a ditch. There was no mention of a fresh motor, that needs to be verified. This car needs a patient new owner with lots of money and time to repair.

I would not like deals like this already.

anyway, that car looks like a part out. good deal for the engine if someone has a blown one. Price should be comparable to price of engine rebuild, I think (assuming engine is as good as advertised).

Buy another one with a broken engine for 10.000 US$, swap, and then you have a 30.000 $ car non matching !!!!

In the photos you can see the whole front bumper and lower valance panel and grill is completely torn off, it appears to have even damaged both front fenders on the bottom , So there could be chassis damage down there , even bending the lower control arms and possibly the chassis that the arms bolt too . this is the stuff that you have to watch out for , more fabrication , more parts to find and in the end alot more time and money .

I'd think more than patience would be required. I doubt it will ever be worth what it will cost to fix. The Jalpa just doesn't have much of a following.

I hope someday to be proven wrong.

You guys are clearly missing the fact that the nice MSD wires are included in the final sale price.

Obviously the chassis is entirely bent, this car is only worth for parts now, what a pity since it's one of the earliest Jalpas.

Do you then indicate car can be repaired and painted back to factory specs for less than 15K?
    Not a chance...

    of course not
it will cost more than the value of the car to restore it correctly (if it can be done...)

BUT it is worth 15k$ in parts

a good complete, drivetrain alone is worth what ? 9k?
    i think at very least...

i know a guy has a jalpa with no engine and i bet he would pay that for a freshly rebuilt engine (this one i think was redone few time ago!)
keep in mind to rebuilt an jalpa engine costs more than 9k$

the rest is worth around 6k $ (imo)
    interior, body parts...

Chris has already replaced this wrecked Jalpa with another. You can't keep a good Jalpa down for long! :) His new one is just a few serial numbers away from my old Jalpa. His new one is 067, mine was 071.

Youd have to get that car for $5k to break even. And that's not counting a salvage title that the car would have. It's only worth fixing if you

    1. Love Jalpas
    2. Would never sell it
    3. Are fine with breaking even at best.

An excellent car of that marque is around $40k in this economy. A factory paint job is $15k MINIMUM. Straightening every bit of that frame and getting it right would be a $3k. Replacing those panels is another $10k minimum. Then the labor to "fix" it all is another $10k when you look at the little things that would come up including interior stuff that "happens" when cars sit in impound lots.

Forget what I said. Youd have to get it for free to not lose money. In addition to that you'd be looking at 12-18 months before you drove it again.

    Then there's the salvage title.....

  24. Don't forget getting lucky. Transmission case can easily be cracked with that impact. Same with the engine. It's all a guessing game without looking at it.
