LONE STAR 3000 RALLY –AN AMERICAN DRIVING ADVENTURE

New Lower Entry Fee, More Types of Driving Tests Added

BLUE RIDGE, TX. March 14, 2007 – The first annual Lone Star 3000 Challenge Rally is shaping up to be one of the most interesting, and diverse driving events in America. Car enthusiasts from around the country are actively assembling teams to compete in the first annual running of what is sure to become a motoring classic. The event will now feature a new format and lower entry fee, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Fisher House.
“We had a lot of interest expressed by people wanting to be part of the initial Lone Star 3000 concept but just couldn’t manage the $5,000 entry fee,” said Bill Baker, event director. “We have reduced the entry fee to $1,000 and will be donating a portion of that to Fisher House Foundation.
Baker said the word “Challenge” has been added to the Lone Star 3000 Rally title to indicate that participants will have to accomplish multiple tasks in order to achieve a winning score. On top of that they will have to find several checkpoints along the 3,000 kilometer (1,860 mile) route using GPS equipment, maps and personal ingenuity.
“We’ve added scoring opportunities so that competitors will have a chance to win one of several cash prizes by virtue of their driving, navigating and problem solving skills rather than a random drawing.”
Because the entry fee was reduced, the initial purse to be paid if 100 cars enter will be $8,500 with $5,000 to 1st place, $2500 to 2nd, and $1000 to 3rd. If more than 100 cars enter, they will increase the purse.
Designed to attract driving enthusiasts who have a strong spirit of adventure and a competitive nature, the LS3KC is not for the faint of heart. Teams will drive roughly 3,000 kilometers (1,860 miles) within the
state of Texas in less than 48 hours at legal speeds. There will be one overnight stopover and one allnighter as the competitors seek out checkpoints whose location will be given as latitude and longitude
coordinates; the specific addresses and word clues which will have to be deciphered.

Teams will leave from the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on May 10, and will finish by midday the following Saturday, May 12 at the same location. Competitors will proceed at posted speed limits, but with a minimum of stops, to locate the checkpoints, most of which are ATM machines.
Baker also stated, “We decided to use ATMs because they are always there and they make it easy to direct the drivers to certain parts of the state. Teams will have to use a bank card to check their balance so as to get a receipt, but they can blot out their actual balance. All we need is the proof they found the right ATM which will be evidenced by the date, time and address printed on the receipt.”
Besides finding the checkpoints, teams will have to successfully drive several time/speed/distance legs where route following is more or less complicated and a prescribed average speed must be maintained. In
other parts of the rally, teams will move to paved, private areas where their driving skills will be challenged. The wide variety of vehicles being entered means these challenges will be more fun in nature rather than outright speed contests requiring specialized skills and equipment.
The teams that successfully complete the rally in a predetermined timeframe, and put together winning times in the scored tests will win a share of the $8,500 purse. Additional prizes will be awarded for Team
Spirit, Sportsmanship, Classiest Entry and Funkiest Entry. All entrants will participate in the post-event “concours de elegance” and a victory party with Texas-style barbeque, music and awards. Participants also
receive unique Lone Star 3000 clothing and memorabilia.
The Lone Star 3000 was created for people to challenge their driving skills, strategic thinking and
problem solving abilities while supporting a very worthy cause. Their reward will be the satisfaction of competing in a unique new event, helping the families of wounded service members and possibly winning a cash prize in the process.
Competitors must possess a valid driver’s license and may enter any licensed and insured vehicle of their choosing. Each vehicle must have a fire extinguisher and first aid kit aboard. The maintenance of each vehicle and full compliance with any state laws is the sole responsibility of the individual teams.

Individual team vehicle sponsorships are encouraged with 10% of that revenue going to Fisher House.

The Rally is presented by Lone Star 3000 Enterprises, LLC, P.O. Box 400, Blue Ridge, TX 75424.
