http://www.autowonder.com/?p=65 8/11/05 "Yesterday, in Beijing Asia Games Village Auto Mall, a mysterrious business man with a Northeastern accent bought a silver Pagani Zonda C12S for 7 million RMB, or $864,000. That’s more than double the $350,000 price tag the super car normally carries, a result of the heafty tariff that the Chinese government places on privately imported exotics." Good to see Zondas getting love.
$350K?? Where???? That car is alot more than that here in the States. Make me wonder where they were quoting from.
I just don't get it, how come cars are more expensive in countries with less money? whereas the Rich guys in rich countries pay a lot less.
Just how much in taxes do you think the Chinese government collects from the one million Chinese that still live in caves? Or from the Mongolian peasants?
$350K is the price in Italy for a 2004 Zonda C12S Monza (according to *************). The US price includes (if privately done), paper work, bond, shipping, emissions tests, import tax, storage for extended Customs hold, and the fee added on for the work done by the importer to make a living. It would cost more for a fully street legal conversion, but I think all of them are under Show & Display regulations (only need to meet EPA emissions requirements).
Steep Import tax, Luxury goods tax, etc. Before the 97 crisis the price of an MBZ S600 in Indonesia was around $480,000. I guess it is still cheaper than in Thailand in the 80's when the import tax alone is around 600%.
