The Dino's currently in the shop for some pretty major maintenance. It occurs to me that the long hoses that run from the engine to radiator and back have never been replaced. (I gather that these are hoses and not pipes.) If these are indeed 33 year-old rubber hoses, might it not be time to replace them?

I look at my hoses every year. If still flexible and no cracks or crazing, I have just left them. Believe radiator hoses are special hydraulic hoses and probably will last forever with only water at low pressure. Found the size matches common hydraulic hoses and price is low at any truck/tractor maintenance shop. Replacement hoses from Ferrari are serious $$$. I figure that I will just replace as needed. Smaller hoses are a different case. They are standard automotive and 5-10 years is reasonable. I have replaced all, some multiple times, during my 21 years of ownership. All replacements have been from local Auto Parts stores. Cut and splice as need be. No problems.

I got new long hoses with the intention of replacing the originals "just because," but when I felt the new ones and the old ones they felt the same, so I'm leaving the old ones for now.

I just did this ...twice. I replaced the long hoses on my 74 gts & am replacing the ones on my 71 gt. In both cases the originals were just fine. However I thought I would do them anyway. The most recent set I bought from "hoseman" and it cost 7.40 per foot. It was the marine hose & is an exact match

Hi Tom - how is number 2 coming together?

The only challenge with the long hoses is that the length is critical. Most hoses show their age at the ends, where the clamp introduces stress on the rubber. In many applications (not on Ferrari), one can simply cut 1" or so off the end and reuse the hose. The long hoses on the Dino cannot be cut back to renew the ends, as this leaves the hose too short to apply the clamp.

I recently chose to reuse my 25-year old hoses. I replaced them in 1982. They seem fine now so I used them again.

    Hi Jim-
I have the entire front end out, dash out, seats out & trim. I picked up that stuff in the Uk & am waiting for my guy to repaint the suspension pieces etc(I have zero patience for that). I am 3/4 done with the calipers too. So its coming along. I ordered 20' of this hose & kept the originals so I could cut it correctly. I also got some heater hose & new battery cables. You have to get back east & check it out. How are your projects??

Thanks for the great info. It's reassuring to know that your originals held up so well. Do you know how many feet it takes to replace both? Is there a certain size or diameter to ask for? I'll probably go ahead and order some from HOSE-MAN, although based on what you've said, I might wait to replace them when I do the next flush.
