I know this is a long shot but.....
At 52 yo I finally am in a position to buy my first Ferrari.
It will be a 360 and I have waited a long time, and now that it is finally about to happen I am searching for the magazine article that started a desire that has never left me, despite a modest income most of my life and the probability it would never happen.
I was only 14-15yo when I read the article and I would love to read it again.
Of course any number of Ferrari articles have been written but who knows, someone may remember this particular one just as I have.
The story was set in the mountains in Italy, the car was a 308GTB and the time frame around 1974-1979.
The magazine was possibly sports car quarterly or sports car illustrated but I'm not sure why I think that.
The writer told a wonderful story of driving hard down the mountain, and described the sound of the 308 motor echoing gloriously off the mountain walls, while the tires struggled for grip and the down changes came thick and fast.
At the bottom of the mountain awaited the carabinieri and they pulled the Ferrari over, the driver thinking he was in a world of trouble as the sounds coming off the mountain would have made it only too obvious what was taking place.
But no, they had broad smiles on their faces and had clearly enjoyed the show, and only wanted a closer look at the Ferrari.
Does anybody remember this article and know where it might be found and/or who wrote it?
    Thank you.

I believe the story you refer to is from the July 1976 issue of Car magazine and I entitled 'Signor, you go more slow, eh?'. I don't have the original magazine but it is reprinted in 'Ferrari 308 & Mondial Ultimate Portfolio 1974-1985' published by Brooklands Books. If you would like to PM me an email address I can scan it for you although in the reprint (don't know about the original article) is black & white only.

It's wonderful to hear of a possible solution to your quest.

I can relate to the emotions that stick in your head for decades like that. For me it was an article in the British CAR magazine about driving a Fiat X1/9 in the Camargue above Monaco.

Hope you find your article and good luck with the 360.

Pleased to hear I'm not the only one!
Happy to report that the article suggested was the one I sought, kindly provided by Jonathon(above) who was good enough to take the trouble to send me a copy.
The memories of reading that Ferrari article as a 14yo schoolboy in a very small country town all came flooding back, right down to the colour of the bedspread in my room at that time.
It has been a 40 year wait, a childhood dream about to come true.
I will have the article tucked away in my shirt pocket when I collect the 360, and the journey is complete.
