Ok, I made it through last summer. My Trane central AC is now 25yo original equipment. How old is yours? With the tax benefit I’m thinking get a new system now. Carrier, Trane, Lennox? My quotes are thousands of $ off from seemingly the same level stuff. How to choose? Time bomb here…
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I think it is amusing hoe the new units are warranted for only 1-5 years at most.

    venusone,

I've been thinking about installing a central AC in my home. Yes, my home is one of those anomalies that doesn't have central AC despite being located in high desert country. Are there some tax incentives going on right now that make it a better price? I wasn't aware of any.

With the energy savings of a new unit - you should have replaced it years ago.

The is federal tax savings for 30% of the installed cost. See here:

I find the "goodman" brand is the exact duplicate of Carrier equipment at a much better price.

I think ours is from either 1979 or 89, I'd have to check. In either event, it works like champ, no complaints here.
