Look who I met today...

There was an electric car exhibition today at our local small University of Applied Sciences, with a drag race of self-built electric vehicles from students and apprentices from the region. I'm studying at a bigger university and know no one there, but I thought I'd go and have a look.

First big surprise was that they had the hybrid Gumpert Apollo for display there! Not much people around, so I was able to have a close look. Great car, I'd love to see it at full speed on a real track! There was a guy with a team jacket standing next to it, I approached him and asked if I could have a look under the hood, he was very friendly, but unfortunately it wasn't possible. I wondered if I knew this guy, his face was somewhat familiar, but I couldn't remember where I saw him before, and then the drag race started and I walked over there to watch. They had some very funny 'cars' there, see the pictures attached. The garbage can was fast as hell!

All the time I wondered who the gentleman with the Gumpert was, until the announcer said that we'd see hybrid Apollo too on the small race strip... driven by Heinz-Harald Frentzen! D'oh!!! So I had the chance to talk to Frentzen while he was standing around there looking bored, and all I asked was if he could open the hood... Ouch!! Nevertheless, the Gumpert looked great in action. Not a beautiful car, but brutal without question. Enjoy the pictures!
