I was late to the party and missed the closing of the thread on Monaco. I was in media blackout for 4 days in New Orleans having fun. I'll reserve my comments on Monaco so as not start anything.

But looking ahead to Canada... What are your thought on Seb having a real shot. The car has the speed, but we haven't seen a flat out track yet like Canada. The Mercs seem to have it all... I'm wondering what soft spots exist on the Ferrari still and if they'll be a big impact to the race... almost like huge power not being the end all be all in Monaco... that sort of thing.

I heard somewhere that Ferrari won't be using any tokens to up power before Canada so probably won't be a match for Mercedes on top speed. But Ham's brake problems in Monaco give me hope that Seb and Kimi and overhaul them towards the end. And the better tire deg of course.

    Trying to move along indeed.......

I just checked, and Pirelli are bringing the same compounds (S & SS) to Canada. Hopefully that bodes well for the rumored to be "gentle on tyres" Ferrari.

Throw in Merc's "marginal" brakes on a known heavy on brakes circuit, and maybe, just maybe, our boys in red may be in with a chance.

I still suspect one of the Merc's will grab pole, but it may not be a front row lockout and it remains a long race.

"This is why we watch" ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

No power upgrades but in China and Malaysia Ferrari had really good top speed, so all is not lost just yet...

If Merc hasn't fixed their brake problem, Ferrari has a good chance (although how serious it was, I'm sure they have...:().

That said I fully expect Merc to take pole but Ferrari stand a good chance at double podium.

I'm just going to keep predicting that sooner or later Mercedes will have 1 or 2 cars with mechanical issues and Vettel will win again; but until then we have to settle for 1 Ferrari on the podium in 3rd.

One thing I noticed in Monaco was that even with brand new SS's, Hamilton was having trouble getting sufficient grip out of the corners to apply his top speed advantage. Thoughts on that...also will that be enough of a head start for Ferrari to manage a lead down the longer straights?

I'm hoping that Ferrari will still be able to challenge at Montreal, and that Williams returns to form with their high speed low drag strengths.

I really wish that they hadn't added a second DRS zone, as that eliminated ALL the action at the hairpin. With the first DRS on the approach to the hairpin, drivers could get close enough to try outbraking into the hairpin to gain position.

Once they added the second DRS, it just meant that whoever was right behind a car coming out of the hairpin would be able to use the second DRS zone to pass on the back straight; so the unintended consequence is that nobody trys to pass going into the hairpin any more, they just hang close behind to use the DRS on the back straight for an easier overtake. It actually ruined the action at the hairpin, which used to be the best viewing spot on the circuit. OK, it's still the best viewing spot to see the cars up close and slowed down, but the action moved elsewhere.

I just hope that Mercedes will be having breaking issues like last year. Montreal is a fast track and requires heavy breaking on turns. Let's see...

    +1

However, and just kidding here, do you mean "heavy breaking" or "heavy braking"? :)

Either one works of course, but seems they don't break very often. Their brakes OTOH definitely look marginal at best...... ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Latest reports suggest Ferrari have spent 3 engine tokens but might not use the upgraded units in Canada?

Scarbs suggesting that's likely to be a combustion upgrade (3 tokens) which allows most of the engine top end to be changed. Obviously that would bring it's own performance enhancement along with the possibility of a fuel performance improvement.
