    Afternoon Folks:

    Here's the skinny:

    1997 456GT 60,000KMs
    ROW imported from Japan
No mechanical history available : Note, I have dealt with the dealer before, and the car will be fully serviced, they're a competent dealer and I have a high order of confidence in what they can do with regards to mechanical. The car is going for an independent PPI but given the visual inspection, the car shows very well and appears to have been well cared-for.
Immediate issues are intakes are in need of some visual love, hoses etc. look good and over-all the car seems well sorted. Given that the price includes a full service, what am I looking for as far as the sole of work for the service? All OEM parts etc are part of the deal, as well as a full photo documentation of the work as it is being done.
    TIA
    Frank

    *scope of work

I would want the Hill Engr belt tensioners rather than OEM. Silicone coolant hoses running through the engine top area as opposed to OEM. Upgrade to the 575 engine mounts as opposed to the original design part. Pillage this forum as there are any number of things to be dealt with. That having been said, it is worth it!!

Excellent info and thanks for advice. I’m looking for all the best upgrades available ‘while they’re in there’. I noticed that the fans kicked in very quickly after start-up so I suspect the rad issue needs to be addressed as well....

Radiator can be had from ron Davis for about 2k. Shocks will likely need to be done. Another 2k. Do all suspension consumables while you at it. Tranny mounts too.

The tranny mounts are same as original stock engine mounts. Engine mounts are the ones for 575. Problem with all of them is they sag. Engine worse than tranny because it’s heavier. 575 mounts put a metal stop in to prevent complete collapse but it will still sag and need to be changed. These engines are HEAVY.

    Frank,

Since there are no records, I would require the following items be specifically checked during a the PPI:
Compression and leak down test - I’d be concerned about the valve guides and whether they had been upgraded/changed
Shocks - expensive to rebuild and take some time
Window regulators - they will eventually need to be fixed by F-1
    Ignition wire inspection

    During the service:
    Silicon hose set from SRI
Belt and tensioner service with Hill bearings and tensioners
    575 engine mounts as mentioned
    ALL fluids flushed and refilled

My 456M fans come on quickly as the car comes up to temp. Even so, I’d recommend a thorough flush of the radiator as a start. They can also check the fan activation during the PPI. If the car has not been regularly serviced or has neglected maintenance, I’d expect $6-8K in service costs.

If you do a search, you’ll find a 456 PPI form I created. If not, send me a PM and give you a copy.

My fans as well and I completely agree, a flush is never a bad idea. All new fluids just so you know where you are starting. Particularly brake fluid full flush and power steering fluid (which is also responsible for the self-leveling suspension).

    Killer;

Thanks for the thoughts- I tried replying via PM but of course can't seem locate the link to do so..... :(
If you would be so kind as to send me the PPI form I would be very grateful!

Window passenger side has the gap, at least a half inch. F-1 is a company here Stateside?

    Any recommendation on shock rebuilding?

Thanks to you all for taking the time to chime in on this topic! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and lots of Ferrari loot!

Follow up to the advice I've had listed above: Spoke with Dave at SRI today about coolant hoses (Dave was extremely generous with his time on the phone today and his input was greatly appreciated....) So that is a done deal as far as using his products/services...He also mentioned that they were finished the Beta testing on some fuel pump hoses and isolators for the FP in situ- I'll be adding those to the shopping cart as well.
I hope to speak with Ron Davis Racing in the morning regarding the rad etc.
F1 seems to be the way to go on the window(s)
Hope to have her in for a PPI next week.
I'm going to include a shot of the exhaust tips.....Anyone recognize them? Seller informs me that all OEM parts exist in situ for exhaust, however the tips are clearly not....I suspect a modification to the rear cans?

You can see the battery behind the radiator header tank in your photo above. To replace, you unbolt the tank, leaving hoses attached, and move to the side. Relatively easy access after that. Same for the Maranellos.

    Frank,
The new radiator will be ver expensive.
I’d hold off buying it until you have the PPI results.
Then, if a new one is needed, you can do it during the major service.

Be careful with the SRI valley hose. Their hoses require re-torquing which can result in a leaky hose after you have re-assembled everything. I had SRI hoses, and couldn't get the valley hose to stop leaking. Eventually I had Fast Cars just replace the clamps and that seemed to solve it, for now.
