The car has about 60K on the clock and all factory maintenance has been done. It's in a color combo I like and other than some rim rash, it appears to be in very good shape.

I've looked on Edmunds, and Inside Line and I haven't been able to find any good info.

Does anyone have any experience with this model car? I'll be using it as a daily driver and I'm worried about reliability and maintenance.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Christian.

Many MY1999 E55's had a transmission issue which required replacement of the entire transmission - check the records for the car and see if this was done. With 60K on the clock, any potential failure should have already happened; if it wasn't replaced yet (check for even the "management module") your probably fine.

Why buy a car with a slush box when you could get a faster-better handling M5 with a 6 speed for around the same price.

Maybe he's saving the 6-speed for a sports car (or track car)?

Maybe that's what he wants and you should buy what you want!

Who would want stick in a sedan? There is a reason why most are auto. And an M5 over an E55? No way.

    Ignorance is bliss....
The M5 is an understeering pig. Have a look at track times comparing the two. Even with more power and manual tranny, the M5 struggles to beat an E55 around a track, all as a result of the E55's superior handling. IMO the M5 is for the guy who wants a family car and a sports car but can only afford one OTOH, the E55 is a great sporting family car.

I've got a proper tranny in my weekend toy. This car is meant to be a daily commuter in LA/OC traffic. I've driven the M5 and while it's a fantastic car, frankly the clutch would kill me in S. CA traffic.

In addition, the car I'm referencing is owned by a friend of a friend (original owner) and I'm being offered a very good deal on the car (relative to what they're going for in KBB and autotrader). Beggars can't be choosers.
