Hey guys, I've been on this site a few months now just reading all your very helpful posts and subjects about the 348 and the 308 as well. Iam currently looking to purchase an early model 348.I haven't seen to many but I'm trying to gather all the info a can.I saw a yellow 90 this weekend and it was nice but I don't anything to compare it with but i thought it was a little exp. Well I don't want to make this to long of a post. I have been e-mailing someone in ind.about a red/tan 90 with 47k on it .Vin# 87834 does any body know of it. I 'm going to try to talk with the guy tomorrow to find more info. Thanks in advance for your help.

Look for good documetation on the car. When was the service done? You need to make sure this has been done. You'll be looking at US $5000.00 right away if you need to do it... Look in the front/rear under carpets and such to make sure of no previous accidents or repairs. What was the cost? US $45,000 is a decent price for the car if it is well taken care of...

348s sometimes have transmission problems at that mileage range. You'll want to put the car on a rack and have a look and listen inside. Look at the bevel gears and check the layshaft bearing on the driver's side. The voice of experience speaks. Me, Fat BillyBob, Earnie, others. Don't want to discourage you from the car, cause it's an aphrodesiac. :)

Huh? That might be the experience of a few people on Fchat, but I've never heard that as a general issue with 348's. Please explain.... I'm quickly approaching that mileage on mine.

Without this site and the people here who are willing and enthousiastic to help out all the time I would never have bought a Ferrari.

Of course the 348 had a few electrical issues, but they can be solved without any great costs.

I've done 3000 miles with my car now the last half year and had totally no costs, except for the spacers and some other small issues which I bought to make the car nicier.

Qualitywise it will never be a Porsche, but hey.. we drive the most desired and famous car brand in the world ;- ) Passion rules huh ?

It seems that at around that milage the bearings by the syncros start to go bad. There is a retaining clip for the ball bearings. What happend to mine was the clip came apart then went through the transmission and distroyed my bevel gear.

The milage on my car, Plugzit & Billybob's car was right in the same milage area. I think Byron's old challenge car had around the same milage too. I don't know what the milage is on JJ's car, as he is rebuilding his trans also. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the same neighborhood.

In my opinion the problem is caused by poor assembly of the transmission, more than it is bad parts. I am positive that was the case with mine.
