hey guys, I'm new here (only my 2nd thread.) Just a few thoughts i would like your oppinion on. I 'm interested in a 348 in ind. I live in new york so I will have to fly there to check the car out. There are two problems with that 1st I can't seem to find a place for a ppi.The dealer told me of a place but I'm a little suspect.2nd he told me it needs a 45,000 mi sevice (he has 48.000) wich means he is late on the service. Is this indicative of poor maint? or do you feel its not a bad thing? He says he has records for the 30,000 mi service. He is only asking 41,0000 for the car. Is that a good price even w/o the sevice. the name of the dealer is Auto House in Terre Haute Ind. Has any one ever heard of them thanks in advance for your help

I would not worry too much that it is 3000 miles past due for the "minor". As long as he has records that the oil has been changed on a regular basis ansd the PPI checks out, I think you'll be OK. Who did the 30,000 mile service? Are you looking at the red 1990 TS?

I think you could find a 91-92 with say 30K on it and fresh service for 50K. That would be, in my opinion, a better deal. This car will probaly cost close to, if not more than 50K when all the service is up to date and you'll have a 1990 with 18K more miles. I have bought 6 used Ferraris. In my experience, cars with deferred maintenance are never good deals.

If the timing belt has not been replaced in 5 years, you will need the whole engine out service, big bucks, and I'll bet this car needs it. I would suggest subscribing to FerrariMarket Letter. There are a few 348's in there right now that sould like a better deal than this. Get a thorough PPI on any car you intend to buy. 348's can put you underwater in a hurry if there are problems.

    Good luck,
    Dave

I would try to learn all you can and buy when one feels right. Sometimes there are deals in the winter. REcently, Ferrari of Denver sold 2 348's quite cheap because they did not have room inside and bad weather was coming. One thing about 348's more than other models is the newest one you can get is best. There was continual and significant upgrading as time went along. 91-92 is considered much better than 89-90 and 93-95 better still.

My advise is to do exactly what Dave tells you with out question. I did and could not be happier with my 328!

I am a new Ferrari owner and I am so happy I went with the 328. If you are not set on a 348 you might consider a 328.

Good luck on what ever you choose.

Did they sell or did they just "go away"? Seems like alot of cars all of sudden went away in a short time frame there. To bad the 328 went away i was waiting on my bonus. looks like i just hi-jacked this tread. :)

I have no reason to believe they weren't telling the truth. The showroom has been packed lately and I'm sure they would rather keep the later models in stock. Not many potential Ferrari buyers want to clear snow off a prospective purchase. Which 328 were you refering to?

Oh I agree with you on the to much inventory. They needed to make room. Which is why I think they just went away. I wanted the black/black 328 gts.

That was there nearly a year, so they probably "made it go away". I do the same with some of my old inventory (not cars).

i would get a 94 . ive been very pleased with mine. wide world of cars in NY has one , a speciale , number 7 i think of 15 . they will hold their value far more than any other. they are asking 62k , i bet you can work a deal, get all serviced up, and get it under 60k.

and sell it later for a much better price than a 90

I was up at FoD a couple weeks ago looking for some posters to put in my garage, and spoke with Derrick. He said that both cars did sell almost immediatly, and I think he said one went to the east coast purchased sight unseen.

"purchased sight unseen" boy someone has a strong sence of faith. Supprised how often that happens. When I purchased my 328 from Naples Motorsports, they said they had just sold 2 Ferraris thay way in the past week. More power to those pepole, I could never do that.

I think it depends on who you are dealing with. I had a very good fealing about the seller of my car from the beginning. I was told from people that were familiar with the car that it was in perfect condition. Then I spoke to the machanic that did the work on the car. I felt confident that the seller was a true Ferrari lover and kept his car perfect. I was pleasantly supprised when it showed up. It was in better than New Condition!!
