What you all think of this?

    http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=337083

    Euro spec. Side carbs 2V.
    1983 LP5000S

He's had it 6 years. Does all the work himself. Hasn't had engine out service in a long time. He says it hasn't needed it. Previous owner put in a clutch 6+ years ago. Hasn't needed another clutch cause the guy says he knows how to drive it perfectly.

    Did water pump.

Rods are getting loose but not terrible yet.

Wing gets bubbles every year, no big deal, to be expected.

Never been hit. Never been repainted.

I like carbs. I like black. I like gold wheels. I like the euro bumper set up.

Its been for sale a long time cause he's askin a lot of $$$ for it. But hard to say what it's really worth cause I don't think euro spec carb 5000S comes up in the market too often in the USA. Or do they?

Opinions? Anyone know this car? Anyone like to hazard a guess what would be a fair price?

I will let you know how it went, and what he was askin for when I come back and post after the viewing.

That is a BEAUTIFUL Countach. Seems that it would be a rare find being a Euro spec car and the sale of so many going oversea's. I am sure there are others on the site that will be able to chime in and give their opinion.

    Nice kitcar.

  4. No, it's real. I remember this car, it was in Ga before Mi and then to where it's now. The dash material is "supposed to be pulling up" in some area. Rods loose but not terrible? Are you talking about the connecting rods in the engine?

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

I'm more of a Diablo guy but the side draft carbs is not what one thinks of the "rare euro carb" which is the down draft cars.

In 83, the side draft carb was standard and produces 375 @ 7000 rpm

Please feel free to correct me as I'm not very proficient in CT's.

    Roughly 695 side-draft Countachs were built if you consider LP400, LP400S & LP500S.

Roughly 865 down-draft Countachs were built if you consider QV and Annivesario.

Accordingly, side-draft Countachs are much more rare than down-draft Countachs. Because of production circumstances, you dont see many QV down-drafts in the USA, so that's the reason you hear some suggest that they are rare.

Hey thanks for the input guys.

I meant the rods on the wheels, not in the engine. sorry for that.

There was this video with bobileff fixing some loose rods on the suspension....common probem....those are the ones i meant.

ill update after i see it.

he seemed like a cool and very knowlegable guy on the phone. and if he did a good job keeping up his own countch well that's pretty impressive I'd say. Only a PPI can tell for sure if he did a good job or he's some hack slowly ruining a countach in his garage.

dont worry, i wont do anything rash without a PPI!

This is a very supportive forum, thanks so much guys,

    Hhahhahahaha,
Just kidding and having New Years fun.
The cars looks great, it has been for sale for a long time. But that may have been an on and off thing. There is a possible story on the car but I do not know or remember. Hopefully it was a different car.

If the car is still in the NY area, have Wil Degroot at Exoticars-USA in NJ do a PPI.

No it's not adjustable height. Actually the springs have sagged a bit and the owner is putting in new springs, so it will be sitting even higher when it's totally right.

I took a good hard look at this car. It's really an amazing car I have to say. The owner seems to have done very well maintaining it himself. Very technical guy, very knowledgeable. He seems to go the extra mile taking care of it....to the point of having 2 barrels of aircraft type fuel in the garage which he mixes with the regular fuel. Now that shows dedication.

It's not a perfect car, got some paint cracking and stuff like that. Nicks here and there. Very minor stuff.

The engine was cold and started right up. It had been 6 weeks since last start. The sound was ferocious when he started it up. MASSIVE V12!! I almost had to change my pants after that.

Owner was saying the exhaust has blue flames coming out of it when it gets hot. I didn't actually see that so I can't tell ya if it looked cheesy or not.

I'd say it's a well maintained show car. It's not driven very often. Might be in the "too nice to drive" category. It's mostly just trailered to car shows.

At 160K asking price, it's well over what the market price is. I think Cats had a similar 2V carb car a few months back that was listed around 104K or something, which sounds about right. This one hasn't been repainted or engine rebuilt, so it's a different thing I guess.

I'm still thinking this over. Im thinking the asking price is way high (and he aint gonna budge) and also, im planning on doing more driving than showing. I dont really do the car show thing. Maybe I should be looking for more of a driver countach, not a show car. And maybe I should be a bit more open minded to the FI cars.

but wow that sound. This is a sick car. The people who came up with this car were wackos for sure, it's just so indulgent.

BTW this c ar is signed by Balboni in 2 places and there's pics of Balboni signing it.

Does 160K sound real crazy to you guys? I can see where he's coming from, its a rare car and all, and its in nice shape. He doesn't want to sell it that bad, and he'll just hold it forever if he has to. I don't think anyone is gonna pay that and I think he will end up holding on to it.

The final twist on the story is this-

    http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=337083
    price says "call"

When it was originally listed in 2007, price said 89K
    http://web.archive.org/web/20070212234120rn_1/www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx~itemid-337083

That's the "wayback machine" for looking at old expired web pages, for those who haven't seen it.

So he wanted 89K, now he wants 160 firm firm firm. From 2007-2009 im not sure the market price has really gone up much. So it seems to me thats its just a case of a guy who wanted to sell his car but now he doesn't really want to sell it.

In any event, the car was super cool and the owner was too.

$89K is a more realistic "asking price" today for this car.

It sounds more like a "driver" than a "show car" but it certainly needs some work before going out regularly.

$160K is more like 'buy it OFF of me' rather than a car that is for sale. Given your description of the car $89K sounds like about average money for the car. Lets not forget that Roy with all of his connections took months to sell Brians similar car that was advertised for $99K. In the end I think the sale was faciliated through a contact on the forums here. For a nice clean driver like Brian's 5000s with current service and well sorted to sit on the market for as long as it did should give a good feel for where pricing is at. Let's not look at the superb odd examples that are freshly restored with no miles on them here. We are talking about really nice examples that are ready to be enjoyed and driven. Depending on the condition it looks like the market on a 5000s fitting this description is in the $80-$100K range.

$160K is fishing for a sucker. Also all the trophies shown with the car mean next to nothing. Go to any ordinary car show with a Countach regardless of vintage or condition and you will walk away with a trophy. 99 out of a 100 times there is'nt even another Italian car there let alone a Countach so somehow I do not think that the trophies are in any way a barometer of how the car compares to standard of a perfect Countach.

Not to rain on anyones parade...but I think I have a bit of a better pulse on the prices then most, not only having sold a few in the last few months...but of what I know is available out there.

$160K is over the current market target.

IMO, anything over $105K for the car is cream money. While I aplaude the owner for doing a lot of the work himself...it does not come to the standard of "documented" service records of a "documented" service facility. I am sure he has no intention of giving you a 30 day 3000 mile warranty and the car goes "as is", and the price should be reflective of that.

If you are looking to spend that kind of money...

I know of a great 1986 TRUE DD car available for the $140K range...private party that I can put you in touch with, the car is as perfect as they get.

    Just my 2 cents

160 is ass assaulting. While I believe all Countachs should 500,000 and up, now is not the time.

Get a hold of Joe Frazar, his black Countach is for sale but he's not actively advertising it. It is a car you can drive and last I remember, about 70 grand area. And roars like a *****.

All Countachs will make you start air humping like a dog, so don't get suckered by the first roar you hear.

    Sweet. Will do.

Sackey and Roy, will send you PMs.

Anyone else who has any "unadvertised" type things go ahead and post here or PM me. I think it's best that I just look at a number of them, like Peter said.

i havent liked any of the Ebay or other dupont countachs lately.

the yellow one in vegas seems all chopped up and im not digging yellow.
the dark red one is OK, i dont like red that much either.

    i'd prefer black or white.

i like older ones, but i will go look at an anni at some point also. Im really super tall and i know the anni may be a better fit, but it looks kinda busy to me. Sat in the 5000S today and it felt tight but OK.

mostly i dont care how the seat feels, i just wanna drive around like a maniac, hahaha

im in the LA area most of the time.

I feel a lot of gratitude to you guys, let me know if anyone needs any dating or pickup tips. Not that i think ya need it, but sometimes it's nice to have that "edge" that makes it even easier.
