First off I am new here and appreciate any info provided.

I was FF shopping but priced for low mile versions have sort of leveled off with almost Lusso so I guess I am cross shopping. Low mile FF is approx $170 where Lusso can top off at $230 with several at $190. v8vs12.

Anyone own both that can offer an opinion? I will almost daily the car in the SE so cold weather isn't an issue. I need 4 seats. Was originally 612 shopping but again once your in the $150-230 range they all seam to meld and to me buying the latest year lowest mile version seams like the smart move?

I have researched the PTU issues for days and I have one question?

In the USA is there an aftermarket repair or replacement? Where and how much?

    Thank You!

Hello Lou, welcome to the forum.

There is a wealth of info on FF vs Lusso but the simple answer is that the FF is more raw and the Lusso is more refined. So decide what you want from your car.

Regarding the PTU, GTE is the only stateside outfit which offers a repair service but they won’t tell you what they do to repair your unit.

The two UK outfits, Furlonger and Parkes/SSAutotech will fit upgraded parts.

The forum favourite is Parkes/SSAutotech due to the fact that they re-engineer more parts, are completely transparent about their solution and have a reputation for great customer service.

For the same price as a GTE fix, you can have a PTU shipped to the UK and upgraded by Parkes/SSAutotech. Check the PTU thread fir other FF owner experiences.

    Thank you much appreciated.

As long as there is a reasonable cost fix it takes away the fear of the $30-40k invoice.

I agree on one being more raw and usually I do prefer that. Although my kids are no longer kids we spend a lot of time together and I have gotten used to them being with me when I take a higher end vehicle out.

I did not know FF prices had crept up to the $170k range. Buying a car approx 6 year newer for $20k more seams like teh way to go although I prefer the look and drive of the FF. First world compromises.

I like the driving and looks of the FF more, I think the interior of the GTC is nicer but you can easily upgrade the radio to one with carplay to solve the major livability issue (the ancient becker/uconnect radio).

If you're going to routinely have people in the back I'd suggest at the minimum getting a 2014 or newer FF when the pano roof was an option (I'm fairly certain it wasn't an option the first 2 US model years), it will greatly improve the livability of the back seat.

To be honest you will not like FF, GTC is much better and comfortable for daily using, better coilovers, clerance 130mm like on regular sedans (example lambo and another ferraris have clerance 100-110mm), plus lift of Suspension, plus rear steering system, plus more softy gearbox. No sense to buy V8 on ferrari, what about rear seats, they good, i rebuilded my PTU for 11k$ totally in SSAutotech included DHL super express shipping worldwide.
So if you choose V8 - better go for porsche cayenne coupe GTS or panamera 970.2 GTS, more comfortable, more quality, and cheaper spared parts, plus porsche have resource more than 100k miles on engine and gearbox. On ferraris is gearbox and other parts not so resourced.
Using gtc4 for DD, but for long highways with kids on rear you can get tired fast, its else one plus to choose porsche for long - short highway rides everyday, with exhaust e-valves and another stability on the road. Because ferraris request more focus and control on highways.

The question here is which do you like better?

if you want an opinion: FF is the only way to go and you will never look back.

The Lusso is more modern (tech, …) but I think the FF is more elegant and has a more powerful design. Lower purchase price too (not much difference in miles between a late FF and a Lusso). Whatever you do, get the V12 (not the V8/Lusso) as a V12 is the Lord of all engines…

Regarding the PTU, there are many threads about it, just do a quick search. Many members mentioned SSautotech.

I was going to offer an opinion, but you know what, the OP hasn't been here in 3 weeks. MRGWAGON go buy a Mercedes and don't bother us. :p
