Longtime lurker here. I found a low mileage 2002 360 I am thinking of buying. It has 5000 miles on it. My question is how do I know the odometer has not been rolled back? I know they have digital odometers but there are services out there that will roll the mileage back under the pretense of "calibration". Is the mileage stored in the guage cluster or in the ECU? Can I have a tech hook up a SD2 and see if the cluster odometer matches the ECU mileage? Or is the mileage only stored in the cluster?

    What is a fair price for a 2002 360 with 5000 miles?

I know in the 3x8 world its easy to disconnect the speedo and the myth is that it is quite common but on a 360 ? if the speedo says 5,000 miles its 5,000 miles. You can always tell the mileage on a car by looking at other things, a good PPI will find worn parts that shouldn't be worn but personally I would trust it.

The ECU also has mileage in it because when the dealer swaps it they match the speedo or is it TCU that has the mileage in it ? one of them does.

bring to a F-dealer and SD3 will immediately tell if car has higher mileage or not...

on the other hand, I would never buy a 10 years old car that has been stuck in garage without running...

Agree with SD2. Have it if you can as part of the PPI.

You sure you want a car that's done an average of 500 miles a year? You do know that has no guarantee that you'll have any less problems than a car with 20k miles... The car hasn't been driven enough to discover what any issues might be...

Are you sure the ECU contains the mileage? I don't remember seeing that on the PPI on my car and a SD2 was used??? Does the normal PPI check the ECU mileage or do you have to ask???

I'd also be concerned about driving with the speedo disconnected. Wouldn't that mess up the timing, fuel delivery, ABS system, etc.?

    You want a price for a 2002 360 with 5,000 miles

    More info needed

coupe or spyder? colors? options? condition? last (date) belt service? service history? modifcations? presence of books, manuals, tools, fobs, keys?

    Many variables.

No I am not sure the ECU has the mileage but I know something does in the car besides the speedo because the dealer can tell if they match and when you swap out the ECU or TCU or whatever it is, they have to match it up with the SD2.

And I have to agree with buying such a low mileage car, I would be putting aside lots of cash for nickel&dime repairs the car will need and in the world of ferrari's a nickel is $500.

I don't think you can disconnect the speedo sensor on an F1 car, my guess is the shifts wouldn't work right ... just a thought !

If it's an F1, the transmission control unit (TCU) stores another mileage record that 'should' compare to what's on the odometer. It needs an SD2 to be read and the tech should be qualified to give good advice.
Apparently it is harder to change but I'm sure it is possible. I also understand it is in km not miles. If it has had a TCU upgrade to a CS unit then it will also not reconcile.

If it's a manual car there is no other record.

Like others have said there should be better/others ways to verify it unless it has been serially clocked every year!

A 360 pro can tell the mileage just first looking normal wear and tear on the car. Like the brakes, tires, interior and exterior. If it has new brand tires, reconditioned leather, and improper discoloration, it can be a target. I can be naive, but there is way too much risk for someone to pay with an odometer. That said, you never know. Clearly have the computer scanned for codes, and perhaps it can include hours of operation.

Not that you asked, I would not feel comfortable purchasing any car if there wasn't any mileage documentation in the past 17 years reconfirming some mileage history. Like state inspections, maintenance servicing, or speaking to prior owner(s) You will need to know how the car was stored all those years, when and/or if it was serviced, who worked on the car, etc.

I owned a Porsche for 14 years, did not drive it much, and probably only drove it 700 miles a year, but had records every year of service, and records of mileage from dealership, and mileage was verified by state inspections, every two years. Car was perfect when sold, as it was maintained yearly (oil/brake fluid changes), driven to operating temperature bi-monthly, and always properly stored to avoid rodents and moisture.

Lastly, if the 360 seems to be a buy of a lifetime, it probably is not. It is too easy for anyone to fall down the slippery slope.

    Good luck.

My 2004 had 12k miles which is not bad. I have records of it because of inspections in MA.... And it still has issues! But remember seals and bearings dry if not used. Belts STILL need changing, oil still needs yearly changing. You should check and make sure services are done. Check the alarm for dead battery. Look for wear out of proportion.

The low miles are good if the car is loved and you want resale... But also remember that low miles means the initial owner did not drive it quite enough to tease out major issues that may have occurred... And it's now out of warranty... Just a thought :)

This is ridiculous. Do you even own a 360?

You're never going to have this information.. but it is never available. There are no little elves that secretly tell you the history of the car and what posters prior owners have in the garage. The only car that meets this criteria is a new car.

It's like buying any other car... you get it inspected, check the condition and buy it or don't buy it. There are no guarantees. Odometer is only one part of the equation, overall condition of the car is a better indicator. Was is tracked for 3000 miles or was it a garage queen on sundays? Same mileage, different owners. And you can get a great car for a great price.

When you get it, drive it.. don't save it for the next owner.

My point, I would never purchase without some verification of records and/or known in the Ferrari community. That is a major reason I do not purchase high end sports cars at auctions that look nice, but had no records/history.

Agree, this "5K miles" 360 needs to be checked out throughly by someone that knows these cars. Yes, I did own a 360 several years ago. Sold it with 16K miles, and it did show minor wear and tear for that mileage.
