    Hi everyone,

Apologies for posting this in tech section (admin: delete if necessary).
Thanks to all for suggestions. Spent today calling around for bezel/gasket for my original Bosch AutoJet II 1988 328 antenna. No success at Bosch, Blaupunkt, TRutlands, GT car parts, and have call in to Antennaworld. Really looking to keep car 100% "stock". Does anyone who has replaced one of these antennas have a broken/parts antenna left over to purchase, barter, etc.?

    Thanks,

    :) Carl

    Carl,

If you know some German, you can bid on this NOS Bosch Autojet II on Germany's e-bay:

    http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38755&item=2464514581

hurry up, bidding ends 3/10, in "1 Tage 19 Stunden."

Or do a Google search for Bosch spare parts for their "motorantenne." I found a few such a sites in Germany selling parts for older Bosch antennas on my search. Try searches with "Autojet II" and "Autojet 2." You should be able to get an exact replacement part in this way. For example:

    http://www.ersatzteile-onlineshop.de/geraete/BOSCH/BOSCH.asp

I will never underestimate the resources on this board.

Barry, Ich spreche nur ein bischken Deutsch, aber es hat so lange zeit ich habe Deutche gesproken!

("it's been a while..") Unfortunately the seller will only ship to Germany, so that one may be out for me. Can't hurt to send him an (english) email though...

And I had been google-searching "bosch antenna" and "bosch autojet/II" with minimal success. Shall now add "motorantenne" to my lexicon.

And thanks Mr. Mann for the tip - I had though TRutlands & Maranello were the same - shall call tomm AM...wen ich will gewoken....!

(many thanks to you guys for the leads & taking time to answer)

    :) Carl

    Carl,

It's too bad that the seller won't ship the Autojet II to the US. When I checked e-bay last night, bidding was at 26 Euros. A great deal considering what this antenna sells for elsewhere.

I'm still unclear as to what portion of your antenna base fractured when you removed it for detailing. With my Autovox antenna, the base is composed of a number of pieces. There's a black rubber gasket which fits against the fender panel. On top of that, there's a black plastic dome-shaped piece with an oval-shaped cutout allowing for the antenna's angulation rearward. There's a chrome dome-shaped trim piece which fits over this which one can orient in such a way to to allow for an even exposure of the black plastic piece underneath. Finally, I have chrome nut with a black internal lining which, when tightened, holds everything in place. The tip of the antenna retracts into this and stops when the antenna tip hits the bottom part of the nut. Is your antenna base assembly similar? Which part broke?

    Hi Barry,

328 is very similar, except all parts are black. Firs tthere's the circumferential gasket (composed of plastic) which is what broke; then comes the two black alignment pieces, then a black metal almost trapezoidal cross-section nut with two flats for wrench. Small gasket is about (make that "was about") 25mm OD with ID about 18-19mm.

To prevent overtightening mine pushed antenna slightly up from below then hand tightened nut & released - plenty tight at that point.

Tried NAPA, Advance Auto, Radioshack for anythign similar without success. OEM AutoJet II is Bosch #7691240742 chrome mast with black tip.

    Thanks again Barry,

    :) Carl

    Carl,

Some more thoughts on this matter. To repair my Autovox antenna, I had to harvest the top section of a Carquest antenna with attached nylon cable. The Carquest antenna came with a universal mounting head and the gasket was rubber with a shiney, smooth surface. My original Autovox base gasket is also rubber, but somewhat stiff due to its age. Originally, when you described your gasket in another thread, you said it was rubber/plastic. It might be that your gasket had deteriorated a bit and was no longer pliable and fractured when you removed your antenna. The gasket should be a stiff rubber with a shiney surface to allow for proper sealing of the hole cut in the fender for the antenna.

Antennaworld.com sells universal replacement head assemblies for various antennas. They carry many sizes of these heads. I would call them with the measurements of your gasket. They should have the part you need.

    Success! (sortof)

Found a used antenna apparently in good condition at Maranello parts (complete with gasket). Incoming should arrive next week. Also found part #s for proper AutoJet antenna for 328 (including replacement mast) for reference:

    OEM Assembly (AutoJet II): 7691240742
Replacement mast: (chrome - not sure about tip): 8698114921

Then there's a few numbers out to side on diagram which *might* specify mounting hardware (current) for -731 antenna assembly: 8673008 001 -not sure if these would match original OEM.

Bosch no longer handles any audio equipment, and directed me to Blaupunkt, who weren't very helpful: 800-266-2528.

Hopefully next week all will be well...

    :) Carl

I'm glad you were able to locate the Bosch Autojet II antenna, Carl. Now, you'll have the correct gasket and a replacement unit if you ever need it.

I know the feeling. The nylon cable in my original Autovox antenna broke a few months ago. I was able to harvest the top section of the mast with attached nylon cable from a $12 Carquest semi-automatic antenna:

DAMN! I just threw out my AutoJet II unit...sorry I missed this thread earlier. My unit had a broken-off piece of the motor body, allowing water to leak through the unit onto the Bosch Fuel Injection computer, rusting the plate that the computer is mounted to - I have this area to clean up this weekend. Yay....

I'm currently trying to install a German motorized antenna unit (name escapes me) but is widely used in BMWs and Mercedes automobiles. The unit comes with a 'fit kit', however, the antenna is 1.5" too long. I'm going to have to fashion a grommet that will fit on top of the car's fender to take up the 'slack' between the antenna fit kit and the Ferrari's bodywork. Its been a hassle, but Bosch hasn't made antennas in a long, long while. We have several Bosch parts specialists here in the Charleston area (Bosch has a factory here), but nobody could locate a new/replacement unit for me.

One thing I'd watch out for is the drain tube on the bottom of these things - they need to be connected to the rubber pipe that drains into the wheel well. If you don't connect it, you'll have water rushing down into the car's electronics!

    Save yourself some work: http://snipurl.com/529g

$25, bolts right up. For an extra $15 or so, you can buy a replacement black mast and cap, and convert it completely black.

Works great, have had it on my car for 1.5 years now.

Sounds like a Hirshmann antenna, Michael.

Yep, just finished installing it today....however, I have a short in the antenna circuit somewhere, as the +12VDC wire from the car has no voltage present to power the antenna. At least it seals water....

    Michael,

If the new antenna you're installing is the Hirschmann automatic antenna (Hit-Auta 2040, or something like that), it's a fully automatic antenna and will not work with your car which is wired for a semi-automatic antenna. See this thread for modifications necessary to make your new antenna work:

Thanks, Barry. That's the antenna. Looks like I have alittle more work to do.
