NO RED
Sorry...I have a little question (I don't want to start a separate thread). Is there anything wrong with 06 599s. Did early cars have an "infancy" problems? Or is any year as good as another?
They're all OK, fewest problems of any new Ferrari in last 10 years. Happy New Year Alex And to the OP: Image Unavailable, Please Login
A: Yes, but bring money. Lots. Needs TFT programming and DME mod too IIRC. A few US cars produced in 06 as 07's. Steel brakes tip off. Very few. I specc'ed mine 6/22/06, but my minor list of options made build in late March, delivered 60 days to day of 1st Ferrari delivery. I put deposit down in 5/01, I really wanted this thing.
You made a deposit in 2001 on a car that was not even known on the drawing board yet and the delivery was 5 YEARS later???? WOW...
6 years. I knew it was going to be an all aluminum chassis with a new 12, and I had reasonable info about some aspects of the car that were very compelling. I was the only one on the list for a few years, people seem to wait until a car is "hot" or a known entity. I've been around Ferraris for 35 years or more, owned them for 30. The F141 is a very special car. I missed the cut for an Enzo delivery. My deposit has been down on it's successor since '02-'03. Expect I'll get one, but the 599 isn't leaving. Hard to make people understand the 599. Subsequent Ferraris will be great cars as usual, but the mechanicals of this car are what I wanted, and I didn't care what it was wrapped in. Once the Enzo motor was confirmed as the powerplant, little else mattered. I can look back at some great Ferraris I've had, and the 599 is all about the engine. The other amenities are just surprising, and take nothing away from performance. I've used mine harder than most, and even found an occasional weakness. Remains an astounding car, and I don't impress easily. I ordered mine with many features of cars I've had in the past, and it is quite singular. Factory invited it to the 60th anniversary "special build" concours last year. Sad that few will use this thing as hard as it can be used. It was worth the wait.
Oh yes of course...I forgot this stupid (IMO) rule of calling cars produced in 2006 "07 cars" and cars produced in 2007 "08 cars" etc... I meant early cars literally produced in 2006. Does "a lot" mean more than 4/5k Euros (7k$)? It's great to see that you're happy with your beauty (and I do think it looks beautiful). Are there any pictures of your car around by any chance (sorry, I've been stalking 599s of FChat members over the last few days but missed yours )? Oh yes...another tiny, little question In looking for a second hand 599 what would you say are the "must-have" options? Carbonceramic brakes, sat nav (?), led steering wheel (assuming it's ridiculously expensive to add afterwards), parking sensors (can they be easily added aftermarket?)...anything else? Sorry for hijacking the thread...thanks.
Happy New Year to you and yours as well. The first thing I did on Jan 1 after brushing my teeth was to go on a brisk drive in the 599, which continues to pile up the miles.
Sfumato, I agree that the 599 is an amazing car! Everything I have read about it and seen on video etc... I can only imagine! Hope to drive one with World Class Driving (or other organization) at some point, but I think WCD has moved the 599 off the main list and now the Scud is the main F-car... in fact the 599 was THE reason I signed up to drive with them...sad it was not present for me to put my paws on. One day (probably need to win the lottery) god willing I will have a 599... I think they are beautiful to behold and I am sure they are stunning to drive! I was just shocked that one would put money down YEARS before anyone else...though if you got burned missing out on an Enzo I can see why it could be a once bitten twice shy sort of situation. Drive that beauty in good health! James
Ferrari of Seattle just took my 2008 Grigio Silverstone/Black 599 in on a trade (Scuderia), with 570 m. You might want to give them a call.
Not burned/bitten, and never shy. Allegedly 85-90 cars for US customers. 2 dealers got zero Enzo's-Hawaii, and my home store. I was about 125-130 on US FNA list then, but subsequently had an FXX offer, so I think I'm much higher on the list (fun, but what the hell do you do with an unraceable racecar?). Made it clear I want street useable. I hear next car will be more like F40 in some ways. I anticipate some things and have reasonably good info on others. So a deposit isn't made for profit, it is made because I want one to use. The leap from 355 to 360/430(alloy chassis) I assumed would be conservative compared to the leap from a Maranello to the next car. A new 12 (always with the flagship) and alloy body would be pretty convincing. I worried when the 612 came out, but it had the old 575/SA motor, and did have a nice understructure. What's 6-8 years when you're driving other Ferraris in meantime? If I had sense, I'd put down 2 deposits, but I'm a customer, not a weasel flipper, and their time is ending for now.
Weasel flipper! LOVE IT! LOL! I just live in a small money world where owning a few nice but used P-cars is the best I can do and just can't wrap my head around the big money cars. As noted I hope that eventually I can find a nice used 599 at a price I can afford, but for now the P-cars have to do... Probably a 400 or more likely a 456 will be my next fun car... That will be my first foray into the F-car world... I always look forward to the next great F-car and LOVE the enthusiasts who jump out front with them and then drive the heck out of them! That is what Mr. Ferrari would have wanted!
Thank you for the link. Yes- I have seen it before. I don't really like the color combo though...too much grey/black, it lacks some color for my taste. I'm also not a huge fan of alcantara. I love the steering wheel though.
Why do people collect serial numbers? What advantage does it provide? The ability to track a car's ownership history? Why would someone want to keep tabs on that? Why would owners allow their privacy to be invaded or their personal information to be collected by others? Sounds creepy to me. Am I missing something?
