I thought I would throw it out . I am in the US and am looking for a 246 GT . it seems that every car I run into is a GTS and while they are nice I really prefer the GT look . I would prefer a car without the flares . If anyone knows of one Please let me know. I also own a 550 and a California and the dino is the the car I have always lusted for but I have never owned any help appreciated
    THanks

    Interesting.

Does anyone have an opinion or comment? I too much prefer the GT without flares. One of those cases where they got it right the first time, like the 750 Giulietta Spider as opposed to the 101.

I know that the Spider C&F s draw the most interest out there, and I would never reject one out of hand given the obvious, but what is the general aesthetic preference ? Is there such a thing?

I'd make that "toooo" many threads. Having had both, I certainly like my GT now, just as I liked my GTS.

David to me the lines on the GT before flares is just perfect . I have always loved the look of the car and if all works out I may soon finally buy one . As I have looked I feel the flares and removable top, while nice alter the look of what I have always thought was a perfect design.
that is my opinion for what it is worth.

    Tom,

    That ad is VERY old.

It is a car that has been bought by an F-Chatter.

I saw the car WELL before that. It is a special car. The pictures make the car look much better than it actually was. Not that that is a bad thing, it was a darn near original car. It was very impressive. I was actually looking to buy it and seriously considering making an offer. It was sold very quickly.

If this same car came to market today, I think the ASKING price would be a steal. You can't replace originality.

It also is special in other ways, but that will be disclosed in the future, I am sure.

I bought the car in December.

Very original and great driving car, but cracked paint and the usual rust - rockers and doors. Are there any original Dinos left that have no rust and paint that isn't cracked?

I had the rust repaired and bare metal respray in original giallo which was just completed. The interior was nice and it didn't need anything mechanically, although it is going to the mechanic next week to have all hoses replaced. Rubber hoses are something I do not want to keep original.

The fchatters have been a great help. Freeman(4camgt) found the car for me and he along with Rob(Nuvolari) have been advising me on the car.

    Good luck in your search.

I was afraid the subject had been overly discussed before my arrival. Actually I was not looking for a "debate" but rather an accepted and recognised consensus beyond a personal subjective opinion. ...... again, if there were such a thing.

In any case I apologise for resurrecting a long deceased subject and thank those who humoured me. I appreciate that such a restiring could be frustrating.

Many questions come to mind; however, I am confident now that they are all well worn. Next time I will consider the archives.

    best wishes

Absolutely no need to apologize. I do not understand the rude dismissal of your sincere question. If the question has been discussed so many times before - and I am not sure it really has - why not provide a link to those threads, or give a summary of what the consensus was? Why not be a little helpful instead?

Your question is perfectly valid and justified: All the talk about recent sales and record selling prices have been in regards to GTS cars, and several of them with "chairs and flares".

My recollection of the consensus among most Dino enthusiasts on this forum is that there is a fairly strong preference for the GT over the GTS. I certainly favor the GT because I think it has cleaner, more flowing lines and a more rigid body. The GTS is also a touch heavier.

Among the investor/collector/speculators who tend to frequent the car auctions, on the other hand, the preference is for the GTS. I think that may be because traditionally the Spider version of other Ferraris have brought higher prices than the corresponding coupes (Daytonas, 330's etc.). For that reason, the 246 GTS is enjoying a somewhat higher market value than the 246 GT. I don't think that price difference reflects the opinions or preferences of members on this forum necessarily.

On the matter of flares (and Campy's), the opinions are more diverse, I think. Personally I do not like the flares. Like you, I think the designers got the 246 GT right the first time, and I feel that it does not need any embellishments. But again, the investor/speculators prefer them, because they were an option limited to comparatively few cars.

To me the chairs, the Daytona seats, are very desirable, though the car wasn't probably offered without the flares if you wanted the chairs? Other than that it doesn't get better than a standard 246 GT. The Campagnolo wheels aren't as nice as the standards, imo. A prettier road car there has never been. It's just 'fabulous' in the true sense of the word.

The BIG question is, is your fantasy to be Danny Wilde in your GT chasing up the French/Italian Riviera or is it Jonathan Hart cruising Beverly Hills in your GTS?
