Hi all. Ive been lurking for about a year, and shoping for the right car. Ive looked at several, but havent found the right car yet.

Where is a good place to shop for enthusiest owned 308's and 328's? Of the cars i have looked at, the owners dont know much about them, and records are scarce, so ive shyed away. I dont care to much for most dealers either.

Im not new to the performance world, I have had a few 911 turbos, 928 GTS, and a Lotus.

I want more of a raw sports car of an older variation, so Ive been interested in the 308/328 after Ive driven a few.

    Thanks

    Dave

Have you seen the Euro dry sump 1976, now on ebay??

That's the top of the line right there....$35 - 50K........

Steel 1977s are next but wet sump on North American cars..

Get used to the dealer factor, or hover at FCA Newsletter waiting for one to pop up.......

    Dave,

I would strongly consider privately-listed cars. You've probably noticed by now that the FChat members who list their cars tend to be very responsible owners, and there are several excellent examples to choose from.

A carbed 308 is about as raw as you are ging to get. Fiberglas is best, then Euro. 76-77 best steel cars, (no cats).
From what i have seen, (very little), the 328 is much smoother in just about every way and it has rustproofing.
    Drive and decide.

    hth,
    chris

I too am looking for a supremely clean 328. I'd be happy with a "B" or an "S", and prefer 'non' red (have nothing against the color, just have had it a few times). I kind of have the hots for blue, but will choose condition over color.

For a month or so, I've vascillated between a 328 and a Boxer (yes, I realize the price differential) but greatly value "useability" and so the 328 keeps coming back on top. I'll be keeping my 996tt (require a back seat) so won't be dependent on the F-car, just as a fun car, yet something I can hop into and drive.

FWIW, there was a yellow 89 328 with a suspect history floating around on this board 5 weeks ago or so (search: '328 yellow furnace' and you'll see it) and I finally re-contacted the owner to secure the correct VIN and 'yes' the car is as suspected: Total repaint, color change, TMU. Translation: A mess. Save your trouble.

Hopefully, the 'lookers' on this board end up being 'owners' again soon enough.

Sometimes dealers are a very good place to find 308/328s. For 328s, you should also look beyond the Ferrari dealers and check out places like Sport Auto in North Carolina and Motorcars Int'l in Springfield, MO. They tend to favor the 328s. Forza in Connecticut seems to find a lot of 308s and has a good reputation.

As someone posted above, you can also check FerrariAds on this site. While there are some good enthusiast-owned cars there, however, the truth is anyone with $15 can sign up here and post an ad.

Service records, books and tools... oh my.

(Said in good humor) Hey, i am offended by that remark. Do all i can to thrash the living shot out of the 308 on the track. WOT... WOT... BRAKE 100%, heel-toe downshift, off brake, 70% throttle, turn, apex, WOT....

Records, books, and tools oh my!

Seriously, took me about a year to find the 'right' one too. If i were you i'd get a mechanic doing a PPI on that eBay glass body ASAP. She could be a real winner!

Records, books, and tools oh my!

Tools, books and records are nice but we really should remember that many of these cars are pushing thirty years old, as are their tools and books and early records. When I got my 308GTB in 1997 it had every record back to 1979. I was proud. Included them when I sold the car to a friend. I bought the car back 2 years later and the records were GONE. He couldn't find them. Still, I knew the car's history so I bought it. Today, i can only document back to 1997. :-(

    Rick
PS: I do have books and tools though. :)

You've got Sport Auto in Summerfield of course. Interestingly, the yellow 89 328GTS is in North Carolina as well.

Photos look incredibly nice, but you can look at a maybe "not so good" example and learn as much or more than a nice car, since you'll see deficiencies to spot on others. Maybe test yourself on a color change, body work, interior redye - all things we'd prefer to avoid, but may not be sure how to spot. This car has all 3 and was done well enough to gain a valuable education. (Only assuming this is not an expertise of yours; you may be exceedingly well-versed.)

Don't get too hasty in your search with a deadline and all. The last thing you want is a bad Ferrari that messes up your dream. This may sound weird, but in my last few dozen cars, I've enjoyed to hunt ALMOST as much as bagging the game.

If you DO NOT want a "B" but see a nice one, I think that's where I'm headed, so I'd love a head's up. I'll do the same.
