    gar,

Can you expand on or clarify what you are looking for in a car. If you are looking for a Pebble Beach level restoration, I suspect you will need to pay $175 - $225k for it but none are presently on the market. If you are looking for a nice driver (shiny paint, fresh interior, but not a true show car) there there is a red one the is just ending on ebay (discussed in another thread in this section). The 'buy it now' price is $129k but I suspect that you could buy it for a bit less. See this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=181673

    Hi Art s.

I saw the one on ebay and I would want a better car than that one. Pebble beach level or slightly lower is also fine. Thanks.

Also, at these prices arent these gtc levels already. If so, would it be wise to go for a nice gtc than a pebble beach 2+2?

    thanks,

How would you guys rate the 330GT Series II at fantasy junction? Priced at $125k it looks really nice in pictures.

Really nice you say?...the seats and carpets would all have to be replaced...plus, the suspension looks like it needs work as well...the seller also advises that it doesn't always run good...

So you have no plans to drive it or do you want to lose $75k to $100k once you drive it a few hundred? Because if you pay the premium to buy a Pebble Beach quality car and then start driving it, that premium you paid will disappear almost immediately ...

I personally disagree with this concept. I drive my car all of the time and I think the value has increased because of it.
First, more people are aware of it, so its reputation (not mine) increases with each exposure; coffe, drive consourse etc. People seem to resapect the car more when they know I drove it there instead of shipping it.
Second, I have a chance to keep it in great conditiona and sort out all of the issues so it alwasy runs as well as it looks.
Third, the parts don't deteriorate as fast as you think when the car is driven, certainly not as fast as they do when it sits.
Last, a restoration is like a time bomb, it is only a matter of time till everything goes bye bye and needs to be re-done. Better to do this in bits than all at one time.

    Gar,

The level of restoration you are requesting is very high. A few years ago, when GTCs were in the $70k range a car that had just completed a restoration to high standards came on the market at $185k and sold quickly. I suspect a similar car would sell for significantly more than $300k today. If you are serious about purchasing a car that is essentally 'new' and are prepared to pay a considerable premium for it, I would reccommend hiring Marcel Massini or someone with similar experience and connections to find you an unadvertised car.

Regarding what to go for, a perfect 2+2 or a driver GTC depends on what you want. Do you plan on putting the car in your living room or do you plan on using it as a weekend toy? If you clarify your experience with old cars and your intentions for this purchase, we can give you better advice.

    Bill,

I don't know about the mechanical condition of that car but my guess is that it would make a nice driver for not too much more money. I like the color.

    Regards,

    Art S.

It's been on their site for 3 months now, as has the red '64 Series I.

The Series II has a cheesy interior and lots of little off things when you study the pics.

The Series I has an undiagnosed engine problem, on top of being resale red.

Like on ebay, the market will separate the sheep from the goats. Neither of these cars is priced to sell.

Non-expert, "knee jerk" assessment of the blue 330 based on the ad =

It's worth 85K and in need of 50k++ worth or work to make it not look like an old worn out used car.

And to think just a few years ago that car would have been worth 40K.

I agree that a Ferrari is better off by being driven regularly...I drive my Boxer at least once a week. However, from what I've seen that's not how the concour judges at Pebble Beach see it...

Right on. It will sit until price is adjusted to a reasonable level...$85 to $95K.

    Scott and TCT,

I think you guys are nuts, or we're not looking at the same car.

To me, the sky blue with tan series 2 330 is pretty nice in the pictures. Also, it still has it's tools and a recent engine rebuild which add substantially to the value. Assuming that paint is as good as it looks in the pictures, the tools are correct, the engine rebuild checks out and the rest of the mechanicals are decent, I think it's a good car. Front seats aren't more that $5k, so what am I missing?

    Regards,

    Art S.

I understand that when driven it will lose a substantial amount , but then I want to drive the car maybe once in 3 weeks or at least once a month. I also have other weekend cars to drive and I am able to maintain them quite well. I would like a really nice car that can be in a show and at the same time driven. I read about some guys like Mr Obara that drive and show their cars. For me that would be worth owning these cars and worth maintaining them. Could I have the number of Mr. Massini? thanks a lot for your advices.

    Regards,

    Gar

I agree with you Morris, yes it does get a little used here and there but the reliability of the car is certain when it is used , serviced and sorted regularly.
