I am looking for a Maserati 3500 GT or Sebring fixer upper for sale. I have been watching Italian exotic car prices sky rocket and am getting concerned that I wll get left out! FCars are soon to all be 100K++.

Oh doesn't this sound familiar, 1989-1990. Just wait for the bubble to burst. It's still go a ways to inflate though.

A fixer upper 3500 or Sebring may not end up being that economical now. Parts are hard and expensive to find. But the good ones have already jumped quite a bit. I love the Sebring but I'll pass on the 3500. There are several of them around. Are you willing to bring a car in from Europe?

    or ....

    http://www.250pfcoupe.com/ I'm sure that one's gone.

Yeah! That one was gone about 3 years ago! LOL!
Seriously, look at the price change betw. '03 and '05/06.....
    Nearly tripled in pricing!

Unfortunately, exactly the same thing has been happening with the 3500 GT; 3X up in the same time frame!
(obviously from & to very different price points!!)

Having too much $$ in Ferraris already, I'm having a hard time looking at $70-90K for a 3500........
And cars 'ready for restoration' are scarce.....
And all those mysterious little pieces that are gone? I think even more difficult to find than equivalent Ferrari bits .....

I'll just have to wait for "the crash" I think.......

Don't forget about the Mistral. While the looks do not appeal to everyone it is by far the best of inline 6 Maseratis.

I looked at a Sebring here in Montana several years ago. It was complete but partially disassembled. It did need to be restored. The asking price was 5000.00 I thought the project was too much at the time and offered 1000.00 to take it away. They agreed but I never went back to get it. I had found a PF Coupe in the mean time. It might still be there. I have some pictures somewhere but I don't know if I still have the phone numbers. Yes I know its worth way more than that in parts.

If you're looking for a Sebring, I recommend the Series II instead of the I, because the II has the new Mistral dashboard/instruments, much nicer (I think) than the I layout.

IMHO The Sebring II is one of the most beautiful designs that Maserati ever created. But I guess it was considered a "bridge" model in-between the 3500GT and the Mistral, which is why not too many Sebrings are around.

Mistrals are nice but my experience says the Lucas injection can be unreliable? I also like Indys & Ghiblis. Decisions,decisions,...

Funny Bertocchi never seemed to complain about it. If it is set up right it is fine.

if you don't like decisions, then certainly don't start thinking about a lancia flaminia coupe!
you could get a near-concours one for that money...

My mentor worked for Bertocchi in the Sala Prova at Maserati as a young fellow before going to Ferrari. I heard many stories of him and his amazing talents. So much so that I adopted his name as my screen name. I really want a pre Citroen Maserati, a decision which will be based soley on economics! Thanks for all the input. I am attaching a copy of the Cooper Maserati at Sebring!

I think you over-estimate Maserati buyers that are typically on Fiat budgets,
that is why they buy Maseratis.

I recently came across a Maserati Indy that has been is storage for many years. It looks to be all there. Does any one know what a fair price is for such a car?

Depends on how together it is. It also depends on rust. Interior? 5sp or Auto?

I can tell you many cows died for these. I spent about $6500 on my interior and thats find a heck of a great deal. Also be aware that the rear muffler has a tendancy to rust, that $1200.

All that said they are a great car. One of these days I will probably purchase another one.

It is a 5sp, red w/black, the hood frame was badly rusted and repaired. The paint is oxidized and the leather is dry. You did get a deal on you interior. Thanks for your input.

I would like to make an offer on the car. Don't want to overpay but don't want to lowball the owner either. I can't find anything to use as a guideline.

    Hey Scott,
sometime its better to own a Maserati for a "FIAT-budget" than talking about Ferrari but never sittin`in it, eh?

Great to see that Ferrari was taken over -by the "small budget"-people!
Do you know how many Ferrari 308 GTB4 are owned today by people who can affort $ 800k+ for a 275 GTB/6C?? Nope!

And please keep in mind: when Maserati was winning Grand Prix, young Enzo F. was cleaning the floors at Alfa Romeo!

    Ciao!
    Walter
